Lia is a qualified osteopath who graduated from University of Western Sydney in 2008. She is the principal osteopath and owner of the clinic, which she established in 2006. She is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and member of the Australian Osteopathic Association. She is recognised by Medicare, WorkCover and health funds as a health provider for approved rebated osteopathic consultations. Lia has treated athletes with sporting injuries, children, adults and the elderly with acute or chronic pain. Lia uses soft tissue /massage techniques, stretching and manipulation techniques and visceral techniques (organ-related, holistic approach). Lia has also trained in dry needling, Kinesio-taping, trigger point therapy and myofascial release techniques. She offers exercise, lifestyle and nutritional advice to optimise your health and recovery. She has a particular interest in foot and ankle pain as well as nerve complaints such as sciatica and carpal tunnel syndrome. Lia’s passion for her profession began after a first-hand experience of the benefits of osteopathy over 20 years ago. This led her on her journey of study in the health sciences and manual therapy techniques. Lia completed a Diploma in Health Science in 2000 when she began working as a remedial massage therapist. Wanting to see better results for her patients, Lia underwent a further 5 years full-time Degree and Masters in Osteopathy at university to improve her skill and understanding for treating neuromusculoskeletal pathology. Now a recognised doctor of osteopathy, she has collectively 15 years of experience treating musculoskeletal conditions in both Sydney and the Illawarra. Lia continues to keep up to date with her knowledge and skills through further training in current practices and continuing education. She has undergone further training in various techniques to ensure versatility as a practitioner – each patient is unique and various factors determine the treatment approach including your safety and consent. Lia has done further study in the following areas of her interest: •Lower limb biomechanical assessment – utilising video assessment and a treadmill. Lia aims to assess biomechanical factors responsible for general foot and lower leg complaints, pain with walking or running. •Dry needling techniques – Lia uses a gentle needling technique, applied within the western medical philosophy, to reduce pain, enhance recovery of neuromusculoskeletal and visceral conditions. •Kinesio-taping course – sports and musculoskeletal taping techniques to reduce inflammation, pain and enhance movement and endurance. •Attended a 2013 world congress in pelvic pain •Manual therapy techniques for pregnancy related musculoskeletal and postural conditions. •She is currently studying nutrition for sports and general health. Lia has lived and worked in the Illawarra for over 12 years and loves being a part of her local community. Outside of the clinic Lia balances being a mum with her profession and keeping fit. She enjoys working out at the gym, cycling and the occasional bootcamp. She is a keen music lover and loves the beach. She finds helping others a very rewarding profession.
