Two in three Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime, yet our research shows that young Australians are less inclined to protect themselves during outdoor activities.

Skin cancer is almost entirely preventable by using the five forms of sun protection: Slip into sun-protective clothing, Slop on SPF50+ sunscreen, Slap on a broad-brimmed hat, Seek shade, and Slide on sunglasses.

Make sure to protect yourself when the UV is 3 and above ☀️

Don’t let the sun catch you off guard!

-Slip on sun protective clothing that covers as much skin as possible.
-Slop on broad spectrum, water resistant SPF50 or SPF50+ sunscreen. Put it on 20 minutes before you go outdoors and every two hours afterwards. Sunscreen should never be used as the only line of defence and should be used in conjunction with other measures.
-Slap on a hat—broad brim or legionnaire style to protect your face, head, neck and ears.
-Seek shade.
-Slide on sunglasses—make sure they meet Australian Standards.

This National Skin Cancer Action Week, Cancer Council, in partnership with The Australasian College of Dermatologists, is encouraging all Australians to take up all five sun protection habits, ‘Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek and Slide,’ to protect their skin when the UV is three or above and reduce the risk of developing skin cancer.

Often called our ‘national cancer’, Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world. Approximately two in three Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer during their lifetime.

Important Update – Medicare Changes (Effective 1st November 2025)

We would like to confirm that Bribie Doctors will continue as a Mixed Billing Practice, as before.

We will continue to Bulk Bill:
• Pensioners and Commonwealth Health Care Card holders
• Children under 16 years
• DVA Gold Card holders and eligible DVA White Card holders (for approved conditions)
• All vaccinations

Why Mixed Billing?

We believe in providing quality, patient-focused care, not rushed consultations. This means investing in well-trained staff, modern equipment, and technology to support your health journey.

We want you to have one primary GP who knows you and your medical history—ensuring continuity, same-day access when you’re unwell, and thorough care at every visit.

Unfortunately, the new Medicare bulk-billing incentives do not support longer or more complex appointments, nor do they allow practices to maintain quality staff and equipment. This system rewards high-volume, fast-turnover clinics, not the personalised care that smaller, GP-owned practices provide.

The new bulk-billing incentive structure may encourage shorter, less attentive consultations in order to see more patients and maximise billings and incentives. This approach conflicts with the ethical standards and values of traditional general practice.

Movember- Testicular cancer is the #1 cancer in younger guys. But good news: it's highly curable when caught early.

Learn what's normal for you. So if you notice a change — or that something doesn't feel right — you'll know to act on it. Getting your appointment booked is the first step. A regular doctor’s appointment is all that's required.
