Have you heard of Advance Care Planning (ACP)? It ensures your healthcare preferences are clear if you became seriously ill or injured and unable to communicate them. 🏥

ACP is voluntary and relevant to all adults regardless of their health status or age. Start planning when you're healthy—before there's an urgent need for a plan.

Planning your treatment preferences early helps your loved ones and health providers know what matters most to you. 🥰

The most common ACP documents in Queensland are:
👉 an Advance Health Directive: a legally binding document that allows you to give directions about your future or special healthcare
👉 an enduring power of attorney: that allows you to legally appoint attorney(s) and set out terms for how the power operates
👉 a statement of choices: a values-based document that records your wishes and preferences for healthcare.

It's important to share these completed documents with those involved in your care and provide copies of your documents to the Statewide Office of Advance Care Planning to be added to your Queensland Health medical record.

Learn more about these documents, and how to create your plan here: https://www.qld.gov.au/health/support/advance-care-planning/making-a-plan

There are two types of people in this world: people who pick their nose and people who lie about it. 🫢 👃

Now we've got that out of the way, let's talk about what's really happening when you jam your fingers in your snoot. Cause let's be real, we know you do. 👀

Your nose contains cells that produce mucus (aka snot) that helps trap viruses, bacteria and dust before it enters your airways.

Essentially, snot is the MVP of your nose, working hard to reduce your risk of illness, inflammation and asthma.

When you pick your nose, you risk:
☝️ spreading the illness-causing germs that are stuck in your snot
☝️ pushing germs that are already stuck in your nose further into your body
☝️ leaving tiny cuts in your nasal tissue, which bacteria can get into and cause infection
☝️ damaging the delicate blood vessels in your nose, which can cause nose bleeds.

Already picked it, now what? Lower your fingers from your mouth, for starters. 🤮

Use a tissue to wipe up your boogers and be sure to wash your hands with soap and water after. This helps to remove any germs that might be lingering on your hands and fingers.

What a privilege to deliver an education session today alongside geriatrician Dr Sam Hutson at the Dementia Network Sunshine Coast conference. . 💜
Together, we explored ways to support those living with dementia, their families, and carers, through knowledge, community, and compassionate care.

It’s inspiring to see how education empowers better health outcomes and strengthens our community connections.

There is a clear link between high blood pressure and an increased risk of heart disease, in particular having a heart attack or stroke.

Family history, salty foods, smoking, alcohol, being overweight, and not enough exercise all increase your chances of developing high blood pressure.

There are no obvious signs or symptoms of high blood pressure, so you may not know you have it! So you should have your blood pressure checked even if you feel fit and well.

The good news? Small lifestyle changes make a big difference to your heart health. 💪❤️

*It is important to note - a normal blood pressure doesn't take into consideration your medical history - your doctor can tell you what your reading should be based on this.

Are you eligible for the new National Lung Cancer Screening Program?
The program is now available for eligible Australian’s aged 50-70, with a smoking history.
The test involves a free scan of your chest to look for early signs of lung cancer.
Because the earlier lung cancer is found, the easier it is to treat.
Lung cancer screening saves lives. Speak with a doctor or healthcare provider to see if you are eligible.
