I just love herbs! They smell amazing, look beautiful and best of all, have wonderful therapeutic benefits!

This morning I poured myself a lovely cup of herbal tea for postpartum recovery. This blend contained herbs such as raspberry leaf, nettle, alfalfa, gotu kola, shatavari, fennel, spearmint, lavender and rose. Did you know that too many carbohydrates can increase your leptin levels?

So you ask, what does that mean? 🤔

Well, in a nutshell, leptin is your ‘stop eating hormone’ or in other words, let’s you know that you are full and to stop eating. If your consuming too many carbohydrates, over time, your leptin signalling is out of balance and you can become leptin resistant. Leptin resistance leads to over eating because the brain doesn’t signal that you are full, it is one of the main roadblocks to weight loss.

To balance leptin levels you can:
1. Avoid over eating 🍽️
2. Reduce high carb intake 🍞🥐🥨🥖
3. Reduce stress 😣
4. Get a good nights sleep 😴

What is your understanding of vitamin D in the body? Do you know why it’s so important? Here are a few facts:

As of recent, there is enough data to show it’s important role in neural health and cognitive function.

Epidemiological research indicates that having a vitamin D deficiency is associated with depression and anxiety. With this research and data it can be recommend for those suffering from depression and anxiety to be screened for vitamin D deficiency which may be a cost effective and safe way of treatment to improve depression and anxiety outcomes.

You can obtain a referral for a vitamin D test through your GP to check your levels.

Increasing your outdoor activity or intake through supplementation will help to increase your vitamin D levels.
