🌟 Exciting News – Dietitian Services Are Back! 🌟

We’re very happy to share some fantastic news with our community!

After some uncertainty due to our previous PHN-funded dietitian, Lauren Ross, heading off on maternity leave, we can now confirm that Britt Kneeshaw has been recruited to take over the role — and we’re thrilled to welcome her to our clinic.

🥗 Britt Kneeshaw, Dietitian
📅 Available every 4th Tuesday of the month
📍 Starting Tuesday 24th February 2026

Even better news?
✅ This service is completely PHN funded
✅ No out-of-pocket costs for patients

Britt can assist with a wide range of nutrition needs, and there has already been strong interest from patients. Referrals can be sent through as usual, or patients are welcome to self-refer by contacting the clinic.

Please feel free to share this with family and friends who may benefit, and chat to our reception team if you’d like more information or to book an appointment.

We’re so pleased to be able to offer this valuable service to our community once again 💚

🚨 Extreme Heat Warning – Stay Safe in the Heat 🚨

With the current extreme heat, it’s important to take extra care of yourself, your family, and those more vulnerable in our community.

🌡️ Extreme heat can cause serious health issues, especially for older adults, young children, people with chronic conditions, and anyone working or exercising outdoors.

💧 Protect yourself by:
• Drinking plenty of water – even if you don’t feel thirsty
• Staying indoors during the hottest part of the day
• Using air-conditioning or fans where possible
• Wearing light, loose clothing
• Checking in on family, friends, and neighbours

⚠️ Know the difference: Heat Exhaustion vs Heat Stroke

Heat Exhaustion (can worsen if untreated):
• Heavy sweating
• Dizziness or fainting
• Headache
• Nausea or vomiting
• Cool, pale, or clammy skin

➡️ Move to a cool area, drink water, and rest.

Heat Stroke (medical emergency):
• High body temperature
• Hot, dry skin (or stopped sweating)
• Confusion, agitation, or slurred speech
• Severe headache
• Loss of consciousness

🚑 Heat stroke is life-threatening – call 000 immediately.

If you are experiencing any symptoms related to heat, please contact our reception for advice or an appointment on 0260 280130
In an emergency, always call 000.

Let’s look after one another during this extreme weather 💛
Stay cool, stay hydrated, and stay safe.

🩹 Why It’s Important to Have Your Wounds Checked 🩹

Have you cut yourself, had a fall, undergone a procedure, or recently been discharged from hospital and aren’t quite sure what to do next? You’re not alone — and getting your wound checked can make a real difference to your recovery.

Even wounds that seem small or “not too bad” can cause problems if they’re not healing properly. Infection, delayed healing, increased pain, or scarring can occur when wounds are left unchecked or managed at home without the right advice.

👀 Why wound checks matter:

Early detection of infection (redness, swelling, heat, discharge, odour)

Ensuring wounds are healing correctly

Correct dressing choice and wound care

Reducing the risk of complications or hospital readmission

Providing peace of mind and reassurance

🤕 You should consider having your wound checked if:

You’ve had a cut, graze, or fall

You are diabetic

You have a surgical wound or stitches

You’ve been discharged from hospital and need follow-up care

Your wound is painful, red, leaking, or not improving

You’re unsure how to clean or dress it properly

You just want reassurance that everything looks okay

💙 It’s okay to ask for help
Our practice nurse Claire is here to help answer your questions and provide reassurance — early intervention can prevent bigger problems down the track.

If you or a loved one has a wound that needs checking, advice on dressings, or support after a hospital stay, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Looking after wounds early helps keep you safe, comfortable, and healing well.

📞 Contact us to book a wound check or speak with our team today. on 0260 280130 or book online via our website or HOTDOCs

Your health matters — and we’re here to help every step of the way.

🌿 October is Mental Health Month 🌿

At Yackandandah Health, we believe that looking after your mental health is just as important as caring for your physical health. 💚

This month, we’re encouraging our community to take time to check in — with yourself, with a friend, or with a colleague. A simple conversation can make a big difference.

Let’s continue breaking the stigma around mental health by promoting compassion, understanding, and open dialogue.

Remember — it’s okay to not be okay. Support is available, and reaching out is a sign of strength.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please speak to your GP or reach out to services such as:
📞 Lifeline: 13 11 14
📞 Beyond Blue: 1300 22 4636
📞 Kids Helpline: 1800 55 1800

Together, let’s make mental health a priority — today and every day. 💚
