When we see a child with "challenging" behaviours, we must ask ourselves a few questions first.
* What's causing this behaviour? (We need to understand what a stress/nervous system response looks like)
*What is the expectation being placed on them, and are they able to meet that expectation? (If not, we will see behaviour to communicate that.)
*What's getting in the way? (Quite often, its a lagging skill)
*How do I help them?
When we ask questions and get curious about exactly what it is they are having difficulty with, and we don't mention the behaviour, it's amazing how much we can find out about what they are struggling with.
Dr Ross Greene is heading to Aus in November. I highly recommend his training to teachers, school counsellors, psychologists, ADHD coaches and parents.
