27th Oct 2018 - Myself and started down the beach with a gazebo and a few boards, literally trying to give people free lessons and they would run away from us,
Fast forward to today and we just won THE BEST SURF SCHOOL IN AUSTRALIA !!!!
The support from the local community has been incredible so THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us in the past.
Massive shout out to the for everything you guys have done for us (seriously none of it would have been possible without you)
Monster thank you to our amazing team (small team but massive hearts) really do appreciate that you give your love and passion to everyone who signs up with SCDU especially who has really been there for us in the last 12 months giving 100% every time and cannot wait to see what the future holds for us.
This award is a direct result of a beautiful community that brings nothing but good vibes and pure stoke into ocean every time !!
Thanks for hosting such an epic night and putting us on the big stage to celebrate, along side world champions, to upcoming groms to a little surf school from Yamba !!!!

And that’s a wrap for Grom Squads in 2025

We will be doing our end of season / start of season party at the end of January 2026

We are super excited for what 2026 will bring and cannot wait to keep improving, getting the kids to level up, spend time in nature as well as enjoy the incredible breakfasts

Long Read — But Worth It.

We’re incredibly honoured to announce that Surf Camp Down Under has been shortlisted alongside Manly Surf School for the 2025 Hall of Fame Awards.

Before relocating to Yamba and launching SCDU, I was working as a surf guide at a resort in Fiji. During that time, I had the privilege of meeting Matt Grainger We had a few mutual connections, but that week was the first time we’d crossed paths — and it made a lasting impact.

It’s rare for me to meet someone with more energy, passion and pure stoke for surfing than myself… but Matt was that guy. Watching him in the water with his family — Bella, Tas and the crew — was inspiring. Even when the conditions weren’t ideal, he approached every session with optimism and FROTH like no other. That mindset stayed with me long after that trip.

Not long after, I moved to Yamba. A few years later, Surf Camp Down Under was born. Over the journey, I’ve sent Matt a message or two expressing how much his influence shaped my vision, attitude and approach.

Today, SCDU has grown to include our own training facility — a small but meaningful project built with my wife and inspired in many ways by the culture Matt created through Surfers Gym.

To be recognised alongside someone who helped pave the way for so many of us in the surf coaching industry is something I’m truly grateful for.

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend the awards evening, as it falls right around the due date of our little one — but I’ll be cheering everyone on from home.

And Matt — thank you again for the inspiration, leadership and dedication you’ve brought to our sport. 🤙
