Supporting someone in recovery can be confusing.

The line between support and overstepping is often blurred. Fear can lead you to become more involved, checking more and holding more. This isn’t about control but genuine care. However, support stemming from fear can feel like pressure and often turns into shame.

True support is different. It’s steady, honest and grounded in boundaries. It allows space for them to take responsibility and for you to stay connected to yourself.

You’re allowed to care without taking on their problems. This isn’t pulling away; it’s healthy support.
