We are told our bodies 'failed' when, in reality, the system failed to give us time, space, and a hand to hold.

Birth isn't a performance; it’s a process that requires peace and patience, not pressure.

Evidence shows us that when the birthing mother is feeling panicked and unheard, when her nervous system is triggered and she doesn't feel safe, when the environment is counterintuitive for birth, it leads to a multitude of issues pointing to the "failure" of the woman's body, instead of the system.

When we replace intervention with intuition and doubt with belief, the story changes. ✨

You feel like your body failed.
You believe your dream birth is out of reach.
One of the happiest days of your life is also tangled with grief & disappointment.
You dream of your redemptive birth, but fear a repeat of your last.

I want you to hear this:

Your body did not fail. You can have your redemptive birth, your dream birth.

You were never meant to birth in fear.

There are a number of reasons mums may choose to opt for an epidural during labour. And choosing to have one does not mean that you have failed at hypnobirthing or failed to have a natural, or positive birth.

What's important here is having the space to make an informed choice, weighing up all the benefits and risks for your circumstances, and to have that choice heard and supported.

Every birth is different. Every birth takes different paths. Making informed decisions and choices is key to having your positive birth no matter the path your birth journey takes.

Ummm, FYI: your doctor’s holiday plans don’t
count as a “medically necessary” induction. 🚨🚨

Reposted from and caption from 🙏🏻 and I could not have said it any better! ⬇️⬇️

What you NEED to know about inductions:

1) Inductions increase around the holidays

2) An induction increases your risk of cesarean by 30%. If you are a first time mom it increases by 50%! (Dahlen 2021, et al)

3) You are more likely to have a baby born distressed or with vacuum assistance (Dahlen 2021, et al)

4) Inductions can take 3+days, or not work at all!

5) It changes the physiology of labor (Pitocin induced contractions do not block labor pain the way oxytocin does).

6) And pitocin increases the risk of uterine rupture, fetal distress, NICU stays, tearing and more. 😬

7) Induction drugs like Pitocin are not approved by the
FDA for routine labor induction. They are used off-label.

And did you know: 45% of first time moms are induced? That’s up from 25% just 10 years ago. In that same time period, there was no change in infant mortality rate. (Dahlen, et al.
2021)

There are rare situations when induction may be worth the risks for you, but most inductions today are not medically necessary.

It’s so important to understand the risks, because your doctor may not be informing you! You are NOT well informed if you’ve only been told what could happen if you DIDN’T get an induction but not the risks of induction itself.

Every intervention poses risks. Every induction is risky.

Inducing simply because it’s Christmas time is a risk I’d personally never take.

Stay strong. You get to decide what’s best for you and your baby.
