Chantilly Park Learning and Wellness Centre

Chantilly Park Learning and Wellness Centre Through being with horses and nature we provide a safe place for people of all ages to explore mental health therapeutic support outside of a clinic room.

We provide a client centred approach by bringing a number of therapeutic elements together. Julie founded Chantilly Park Learning and Wellness Centre after training in Psychotherapy and discovering the therapeutic power of working with horses to address her own trauma and grief. Formerly a Clinical Research Coordinator at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute for 22 years, Julie decided to utilize her skills in building rapport and creating safe spaces in a new, unique setting. She is a Clinical Soul-Centred Psychotherapist (registered with PACFA & ASCP) and one of the first in Australia to earn the internationally recognized Certification of Equine Interaction Practitioner in Mental Health. Julie is supported by a herd of 10 horses, a team of chickens, a barn cat named Sooty, and Mo, a lap dog. The human team includes Courtney and Laura, who bring extensive experience in Family Services and other complementary training. The team have completed training with:
• Certification Board for Equine Interaction Professionals™
• Centre of Equine Experiential Learning
• Australian Equine Facilitated Learning
• Psychodynamic Equine Assisted Trauma Therapy

Just as our body has nutritional needs our minds and bodies have a biological and emotional need, which is for connection.

As with nutrition everyone’s emotional needs are different.

When that need is not met, we survive but we do not thrive 🌿. Human beings have an incredible ability to adapt to most living conditions that allow us to survive.

However, we do not thrive🌿 when we have to adapt to living conditions that do not meet our biological and emotional needs.

Two of kids most important emotional needs are healthy self-worth and healthy self-esteem.

Their self-worth is their belief about their worthiness; their belief about how they deserve to be treated.

Their self-esteem is their belief about how capable, competent, and valued they are. Kids are not born with any beliefs about themselves, they learn what to believe about themselves from how we treat them.

We are in the “silly-season” which can empty our kids (and our cups) quickly. Take time to think how you can fill your child’s cup 🐴💜🌿

Some days you just need to hang with a pony and just BE 😍

I find it hard to “just be” at times but when I get the chance to sit with the ponies I always smile 😃😃😃

How do you like to “be”?

"Every time you think of calling a kid 'attention-seeking', consider changing it to 'connection-seeking' and see how your perspective changes."
~ Dr J Carrington, Psychologist

This quote applies to both children and horses...

Connection involves building a relationship based on trust, understanding, and shared emotional energy, rather than control. It requires being present, observing behavioral cues, and using calm energy to create a safe, willing partnership where a horse or a child feels understood and safe.

We are honoured to be able to hold space for our clients as they explore what connection means for them 🐴🥰

We have been quiet on social media & even missed sending our Summer Newsletter 🫣🫣🫣

Why????

Life happened….

It takes a lot to continually create content, find the right image & generally be present.

2025 was a tough year for our whole team.

Between all 5 of us we experienced and held space for each other as we saw our clients and….
- welcomed a new therapist
- welcomed 2 babies into the mix
- juggled loss of sleep
- lost 3 treasured fur babies
- moved properties
- family member diagnosed with terminal cancer
- family member had spinal surgery
- completed an Honours Thesis
- navigated return to work juggling care of 2 babies
- integrated new ponies & dog into the team.

Wow it was a BIG year & the start of 2026 has also presented us with some challenges 🤯🤯🫣

2026 is underway though and many may have heard it’s the year of the Horse 🐴🐴. We want to honour that so watch out for what that means 🥰🥰🐴🐴

Whilst there is still a lot of navigating in the background we are back with business as usual with immediate availability. So if you are looking for a supportive non judgemental environment then reach out to have a chat 🐴

10 years ago Chief arrived at Chantilly Park thanks to a friend of ours. He was not in the most healthiest state but with some TLC came good quickly & is a much loved member of our team.

I asked my dad that year to get him a fly mask as I was working at the RCH & driving 3hrs a day and it was a particularly bad year for flies!

I was at work & received this photo....

SLOW DOWN......take just ONE extra second to really connect with the people in your life.

Connection with others is based on the QUALITY of our presence with them.

Imagine a world where your loved ones felt that the answer to these questions was YES...

✡️ Do you see me?

✡️ Do you care that I’m here?

✡️ Am I enough for you?

✡️ Can I tell that I’m special to you by the way that you look at me?

Horses in their majestic beauty connect and accept in non-judgemental ways 💜

Being present doesn’t require meditation, deep breaths, or anything like that.

How will you be fully present for someone today?

🌟love what you do; do what you love🌟
