Why Sleep and Self-Care Are Vital After Plant Medicine Journeys and Altered States

After entering altered states of consciousness whether through plant medicine, breathwork or other deep spiritual work- your body, mind, and spirit need time to rest, integrate and ground.

Why Sleep Matters:

-Healing the Psyche: REM sleep helps process emotions and anchor insights. While it can be tempting to stay awake thinking and reflecting on your experience, getting enough sleep is one of the most important steps you can take.

-Nervous System Reset: Deep sleep allows your nervous system to settle and restore balance. Without it, you risk staying in a heightened state of activation, which can make emotional regulation and integration much more challenging.

-Physical Recovery: Sleep supports the immune system, aids cellular repair and hormone regulation and helps the body recover from the physical impact of intense inner work.

-Dream Wisdom: Dreams may carry symbolic messages and supportive insights about your journey offering clarity and wisdom to aid in your integration.

Support your integration with intentional rest:

-Avoid overstimulation for a few weeks by trying your best to avoid large crowds, busy places, over socialising, and excessive phone use, as these can drain your energy and distract you from being present to your body and its messages.

-Stay hydrated, nourish yourself with grounding foods and herbal teas.

-Create a calm, tech-free sleep space to encourage deep rest.

If we view these experiences like psychic surgery, then integration is the recovery. This is where true healing happens, requiring rest, nourishment, and care just as with physical surgery- to ground and process the profound shifts.

The journey continues- honour your integration. 🌵

The Dangers of Pedestalising Spiritual Teachers

It’s natural to admire teachers and leaders who inspire us. But placing them above ourselves can create unhealthy dynamics.

When we idealise someone as perfect or believe they are fully healed and know what is best for us we might ignore red flags. Realising they aren’t who we thought- or that they may not truly see or care for us can bring grief and confusion. It’s also a chance to reclaim our power and reconnect back to our own intuition and wisdom.

Growth comes when we remember to trust ourselves and explore our own values and belief systems, remembering that spiritual teachers are on their own journey and are humans that can and do make mistakes. Great teachers don’t want to be put on a pedestal- they walk along side you with integrity and humility.

🌿Sit Spot Practice: Listening to the Earth

The sit spot practice, also known as the "Sacred Area," originates from teachings shared by the Apache elder Stalking Wolf. This practice was later popularised by tracker Tom Brown Jr. and his student Jon Young. At its heart, it’s about forming a relationship with the land by choosing one place in nature to visit regularly. You sit, observe, and listen—not just with your ears, but with your whole being.

This simple but profound practice can:
-Strengthen your connection to the Earth
-Quiet the busy mind and bring presence
-Help you notice patterns in the natural world—seasons, wildlife, and your own rhythms
-Help to mirror back to you who you are and feel a sense of belonging

The Earth has wisdom to share—are you listening? By returning to the same spot, you begin to feel part of the ecosystem not separate from it. It’s a way to root yourself, not just in nature, but in the present moment.

If you're feeling disconnected, this is one of the most grounding practices you can try. No tools or techniques are needed—just your presence and an open heart. 🌻

Try making a habit of visiting your sit spot each week. When you return to the same place over and over, you will notice changes with each visit and deepen your relationship with the land.

Gratitude to the mentors and traditions that continue to teach us the importance of connecting with the natural world.

Do you have a place you love to sit and just be?

Hi šŸ‘‹ it's me, I'm back.. After writing a post declaring I was done with Instagram *sigh* It's a funny relationship isn't it? I did learn alot being offline taught me alot about how I want to use it moving forward- more discipline, more awareness, that sort of thing, ya know?

Lucky I'm flexible and open to change, right? Call it growth, call it indecision, but here we are! 🄳

While I was offline I've been busy updating my website to better reflect the work I offer. From Integration Support to Shamanic Drum Journeying, I've created new pages to share more about what I do and how it might support the community. It's been a process of clarity, creativity and inspiration and I'm really happy to finally share it!

Feel free to have a squiz www.theinnertree.com.au šŸƒ

🌿 Experience Healing and Self-Discovery with Transpersonal Counselling🌿

Are you longing for deeper joy, emotional healing, or greater clarity in life? Transpersonal Counselling offers a unique path for exploring beyond the everyday mind, opening doors to connection, creativity, and inner wisdom.

In our sessions, we create a safe, compassionate, and trauma-informed space where you can explore what is emerging within you. With practices like art expression, meditation, nature connection, dream work, and somatic healing, we go beyond talking to tap into the language of the body, mind, and spirit—no art experience needed.

What to Expect:
Each session unfolds uniquely, tailored to your journey. Some of the tools we may explore include:

*Art as a bridge to the unconscious, revealing new insights and perspectives
*Guided meditation, journaling, and visualizations to support inner reflection
*Somatic and nature-based practices, shamanic rituals, and dream exploration

Potential Benefits:

*Greater self-awareness and a strengthened connection with your inner healer
*Reduced anxiety, stress, and feelings of depression
*Enhanced self-trust, self-esteem, and clarity of purpose
This approach honours all aspects of the human experience—mind, body, emotions, and spirit. If you’re ready to begin your journey to deeper healing and personal growth, reach out to learn more or book a session. 🌱
