We were thrilled to throw open our doors at YDHS to members of the local community and provide them with an opportunity to learn a bit more about what we do.

Several of our team members and board directors provided a tour of our facilities, including a summary of the key projects we currently have underway. Visitors also had the chance to speak directly with our team and learn bit more about the wide range of services we offer.

A big thanks to our wonderful visitors for coming along and for the terrific questions.

It’s great to see so many people actively engage with us here at YDHS and support the work we do.

It’s also great to hear firsthand about the health and wellbeing issues that are front of mind for the local community. After all, we’re here to provide services that meet the needs of the local community and there’s no better way to find out that information than by speaking directly with our consumers.

Today is World Sepsis Day.

Sepsis arises when the body’s response to an infection injures its own tissues and organs. It may lead to shock, multi-organ failure and potentially death – especially if not recognised early and treated promptly.

And the stats might surprise you.

Between 47 and 50 million cases are reported each year, with at least 11 million deaths across the globe attributable to sepsis.

Sepsis is always caused by an infection and is a medical emergency. Signs of sepsis include:

- Slurred speech or confusion
- Extreme shivering or muscle pain
- Passing no urine all day
- Severe breathlessness
- Skin mottled or discoloured.

If you or someone you know is showing signs of sepsis seek immediate medical attention.

Today is RUOK? Day, a chance for us all to start a conversation that could change a life.

And when you look at the statistics, these conversations are needed now more than ever.

According to ABS data, more than eight people take their own lives each day in Australia, while more than 55,000 Australians attempt su***de each year.

So if you’ve got a feeling that someone you know or care about isn’t behaving as they normally would - perhaps they seem out of sorts, or more agitated or withdrawn - trust that gut instinct and act on it.

By starting a conversation and commenting on the changes you’ve noticed, you could help that family member, friend or workmate open up.

If they say they are not OK, you can follow the conversation steps in this handy graphic to show them they’re supported and help them find strategies to better manage the load.

And if they are OK, that person will know you’re someone who cares enough to ask.

🚐 The Women’s Health Mobile Clinic is coming to Yarram! 💜

From Monday 15th September to Friday 10th October 2025, BreastScreen Victoria’s Women’s Health Mobile Clinic will be parked at the Yarram Medical Centre offering free and confidential 45-minute appointments with a nurse practitioner experienced in women’s health.

This nurse-led service provides support for:
✔️ Contraception
✔️ Pregnancy options counselling
✔️ STI testing
✔️ Menstrual and pelvic pain
✔️ Menopause and bladder concerns
✔️ Cervical and bowel screening

The Women’s Health Mobile Clinic is a 12-month pilot project being delivered by BreastScreen Victoria in partnership with the Victorian Department of Health.

The Mobile Clinic is a nurse-led service located within BreastScreen Victoria’s mobile screening service. It aims to increase access to sexual and reproductive health, women’s wellbeing and cancer screening services close to home for women living in regional and rural Victoria.
