Cold water immersion is not about proving how long you can suffer (if you know someone in doubt). Being tougher is a misunderstanding on how to use it as a tool for your health.
It’s about training your nervous system and metabolism to return to balance — faster and efficient.

In the water, your body says “This is hard. Get out.”
But when you stay a little longer, with calm breathing, you’re teaching your brain: stress is safe, and I can recover. But remember: Less is more, especially in cold water.

That skill transfers to daily life — from handling conflict to public speaking.

Tip: Focus on slow exhales, and finish feeling calm.

When our body becomes the centre of our healing work, it often does so through the lens of trauma and pain. We see our body as the broken one. We see it for its symptoms. For its pain. For its dysregulation. And yes, these things are real. And yes, we want to tend to them. And…. Sometimes we forget that beneath the pain, there is still an innate wisdom, there is still a great intelligence hardwired within us, there is still medicine inside.

The body can “hold” unprocessed trauma when the nervous system stays in a self protective state, causing our body to brace, tighten, anticipate, dissociate, or numb. But these are layers of self protection, not permanent changes to our physiology.

The body also carries with it so much more.

What might happen if we spend as much time as we do focusing on what needs to be fixed within our body and notice how much wisdom our body also has.

How it whispers to us messages and requests. How it finds its way through even the most challenging times.
How it’s mirrors seasons in its energy fluctuations.
How it quite literally repairs itself in your deepest sleep.

Our body is designed to heal.

So, as you embark on your relationship with yours, allow this reminder to also be at the centre of your connection with it. “I know you have the innate ability to heal. I know you have great wisdom. I’m listening, I’m following, and I want to know more”

As much as we long to be seen, it can be confronting. Really seen. Perhaps since the beginning of civilization, being seen was not only scary, but fatal. For our survival we have learned to wear a mask and amour ourselves. Vulnerability would get us killed. This is encoded in our DNA to this day.

And yet our liberation lies in becoming our true authentic, unique, divine, and amazing selves! That is why we are here.

Horses see the truth of who we are. Unflinching. Unconditionally accepting. They invite us to take off our masks and armor and meet our authentic selves. We feel safe in their presence. Gradually we begin to feel at home, expressing our authentic selves. Horses, as sentinel beings hold sacred space for us as we reclaim our truth.

As a Remedial Massage Therapist of over 30+ years I have done hours and hours of additional training, learning new techniques to support my clients.
My latest training is working with sore backs - probably the largest complaint that clients bring to the table.

I LOVE the Movingness approach to our bodies. As a trained teacher I use the exercise a lot to show my clients how to bring their attention to their bodies and move with ease.

“The beauty of somatic practice lies in its inherent adaptability,” writes Lara Heppell. “When hot flashes surge, we can respond with cooling breaths and expansive movements. When anxiety spirals, we can find ground through weighted movements and conscious yield.”
