I am officially a world record holder as of tonight! I participated in the online olive oil tasting. What an experience… I have always known the health benefits of olive oil and always recommend buying the best quality Australian extra virgin oil you can afford BUT tonight I learnt just how different the flavours are between the varieties! I am super excited to experiment with some new ways of using it!

About Me...

Hi everyone 👋 I'm Clara.

As a clinical nutritionist, I love working with people to help them discover their healthiest possible lifestyle.

My passion is to help others find more energy, improve their sleep, lose weight and improve body composition, enhance mood, reduce stress and anxiety, regulate hormones and improve gut and skin health.

Everyone is individual; no two treatment approaches should be exactly the same so, I will work with you to discover the underlying causes of your current health status and what the best way forward is for you.

I also have a passion for therapeutic low carb and ketogenic lifestyles.

Appointments are available online or face to face in the clinic every second Saturday.

Healthy take out at home!

We don’t eat take out very often, however, we recently got burgers and chips as a treat via a delivery company and boy was it disappointing! Super expensive, kinda gross and we all felt totally sluggish after eating it!

So…we decided to make healthy burgers at home. These are on diet doctor low carb buns with a selection of toppings, beef patties and homemade mayo. Super delicious!

Hello…

I have not been very active on here for a while! I did a talk this morning to a lovely group of women on my fave nutrients for mental health and a few of the women mentioned having menstrual issues.

📚So, I thought I would post my reading recommendation for all women, at either end (or anywhere in-between) on their menstrual journey.

📚Pain and heavy bleeding are not normal, and you do not need to just put up with it! There is a lot that you can do to help, and The Period Repair Manual is great place to start.

📚At the other end of the timeline is peri-menopause and menopause … addresses all of the possible symptoms and treatment options that are available in such an easy to understand way AND this book addresses the stigma an attached with discussions around menopause.

Happy First Day of Winter ❄️❄️❄️

Do you struggle to keep your water intake up as the weather gets colder?

Hydration is important all year round even in the colder months especially as we spend so much time indoors with heating.

Why not try swapping to warm drinks?

Herbal teas, lemon and or ginger in hot water or even a broth all add to your total water intake for the day.

What is your fave hot drink (thats not coffee 😉)?

I love ginger tea and am also partial to a cup of bone broth...

If you are struggling to keep hydrated these are my top tips...

1. Buy yourself a water bottle that you really enjoy drinking out of
2. As above, add in some warm non-caffeinated drinks
3. Use an app like 'water reminder' to help keep you motivated

Are you on a post Easter chocolate and sugar high? 🍫🍫🍫

Sugar drives sugar cravings and hunger so the best way to get over a possible overindulgence is to focus on nutrient dense protein rich foods.

Protein helps you feel fuller for longer so make sure you are including high protein foods at each meal.

If you would like a personalised nutrition program, get in touch. Book and appointment or a free 10 minute chat with me today :)

Happy Easter. I hope everyone is enjoying some relaxing time off with friends and family :)

Iron - Fe

Low iron levels is one of the most common nutritional deficiencies I see in clinic. It occurs most often in pre-menopausal women but can effect anyone. If not corrected it leads to iron deficiency anaemia.

Generally the first symptom people notice is fatigue but other symptoms include, weakness, pale skin, cold hands and feet, shortness of breath and sometimes craving for strange non-food substances like sand, dirt or ice!

Finding out WHY someone is deficient is the key to correcting it. Commonly it is from low dietary intake but can also be due to absorption issues, blood loss or other chronic health conditions.

Iron overload is also an issue so you should never take iron supplements without guidance from a health professional.

Some quick tips to help boost your iron intake through diet include:

- increase good quality dietary red meat
- increase dark green leafy vegetables and herbs like parsley
- combine animal (heme) and vegetable (non heme) sources of iron
- always include some vitamin C with your iron rich foods like a squeeze of lemon juice or capsicum in salad.
- cook in a good quality cast iron pan

AND... avoid drinking tea and coffee within 45 minutes of eating as it can block the absorption of important nutrients.

Why not try my iron rich green salsa. This is packed with iron rich parsley and is super tasty! It can be used over anymeats (red meat for extra iron boost) but is also delicious as a salad dressing or over eggs - recipe below in first comment.

If you try it let me know!

If you would like some more personalised advice about your iron levels or other possible causes for your fatigue why not book an appointment today?

...so just start.

Did you make big 2021 new years resolutions and now we are into February and you still haven't started?

New year, new you...all of that kind of thing?

I hate to break it to you but new year same you...and there is nothing wrong with that. You are great!

However if you have health issues that you would like to improve there is no better time to start than right now.

So what is nutritional medicine?

I work with you in a holistic way (this means figuring out what makes you, you) to understand and find the root cause of your current health issues.

Because of this individualised understanding of you I work with you to prescribe a tailored achievable plan that works for you.

The plan will always include dietary and lifestyle recommendations and when relevant practitioner only high quality nutritional supplements.

I love to work with clients for weight management and improving body composition BUT remember health always comes first. Focus on health and healthy weight will follow!
