Just some of the reasons we do Bikram Yoga š
āIf you havenāt practiced at Bikram Yoga before, itās tempting to think ā...itās just stretching in a hot room, how ātransformativeā can that be?ā although perversely, itās the simplicity of āstretching in a hot roomā that makes it so transformative. That said, I too, had that same question when I attended my first Bikram Yoga class. Itās now six years later and I canāt imagine life without it (or at least I canāt imagine experiencing the same appreciation towards life without it).
One may argue that there are many other forms of exercise which allow the release of endorphins (such as the ārunners highā), but endorphins are just a āfirst orderā consequence of attending BYD. There are also countless āsecond orderā consequences (i.e. improved mental wellbeing, better cardiovascular health, weight loss etc.) that we receive from BYD, but one could again argue that similar outcomes are achieved from spinning, power-lifting, functional training etc. However, itās the āthird orderā consequences that differentiates BYD for its members; increased confidence in yourself, compassion for others, more control over negative (and positive) emotions, spontaneous feelings of bliss and gratitude, improved self-discipline etc. I could easily go on.
It would therefore be an oversimplification to describe BYD as ājust another fitness studioā as itās the intangible āthird orderā consequences that we receive from BYD that make it so special to its members.ā
