Lunchbox inspiration for a toddler!
Jimmy goes to a family daycare two days a week and I often get asked what I pack in his lunchbox. It’s usually a random mix of whatever I can find/throw together the night before or morning of. It’s definitely not perfect, but I always aim to offer a balanced lunchbox (protein, carbohydrates & good fats) with variety of different foods.
🥩 a “main” type food that contains protein & good fats - usually tuna/avocado sushi, mini quiche, homemade sausage roll, sourdough sandwich with tuna cheese & avo, leftover rissoles or meat, pancakes or fritters, leftover spaghetti or pasta (which is normally quinoa, lentil, bean, or sourdough)
🍓 fresh fruit
🍇 dried sultanas & goji berries (his fav special treat) plus some pumpkin seeds
🥒 some type of veggies like cucumber, capsicum, cherry tomatoes, beetroot, pickles (which he never usually eats, but it’s mainly for exposure 🤷🏼♀️)
🧀 other snacks such as seaweed crackers, cheese, buckwheat or brown rice cakes with ABC spread
🍰 sometimes a little homemade treat such as a chickpea blondie, banana bread, bliss balls, peanut butter slice, etc.
He definitely doesn’t eat all of his food, but I feel better knowing that I’ve offered him a variety of different foods for the day.
Continuous exposure to different foods, especially vegetables and foods they don’t tend to eat, can eventually make a huge difference and broaden their palate long term.
Children tend to be more open to eating new foods when their parents aren’t around, so it can be a great opportunity to exposure them to different foods!
Side note - I definitely suck at social media, so I apologise for the not so great photos 😂🤪
