Happy Imbolc 🙏
Really it's Imbolc week! Traditionally it is celebrated on the 1st of August but astronomically it falls at 6.27pm AEST on the 7th of August in the Southern Hemisphere.
What does it mean ?
Imbolc is a traditional seasonal celebration from many European cultures. Maybe a different name or a different story to weave. Before clocks and the Gregorian Calendar humanity used the changes and cycles observable in the natural world to keep time. The cycles of the Moon and the patterns of the seasons. These cycles created a natural calendar that was marked by families and communities. Imbolc being the midpoint between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox. These celebrations occur every 6 weeks and mark the changes present in the landscape due to the changing path of the Sun.
At Imbolc we are transitioning out of the colder part of the year and rising towards Spring Equinox. The days are getting longer and warmer.
For me in NNSW some of the deciduous trees are reshooting or about to! The stone fruit are flowering 🙏 and so is my beautiful Magnolia 🌸
I love this time of year. The nights and mornings are still chilled but the days are beautiful and warm ♥️
I love connecting with the seasons and the turning of the Wheel of the Year in this way. Taking time to acknowledge the changes and live in Earth time not human constructed time ♥️
