Let's talk about lateral hip pain. This is pain over the outside of the hip. It is really common, especially in women, up to 1 in 4 women over 50, but can affect people at any age. Thankfully it is not usually related to arthritis of the hip and is a soft tissue condition that can often be relieved with the right management. Perhaps the worst thing about it is that it commonly disrupts sleep and prevents people being as active as they would like to be.

Strength training is the key. If you are not sure where to start get in touch with one of our amazing local health professionals.

There seems to be a perception that, as we age, stopping strength training is inevitable. But if you’ve been consistent week after week, why does there have to be a cut-off? Do you just wake up one day and think: I can’t do this anymore?

Elaine Paddor has been lifting weights consistently since her mid-50s. Now 80, she’s not only doing everything she could back then, she’s still improving.

Tap the link in the comments for her strength routine which is somewhat of a longevity masterclass.

Do you understand gluteal tendinopathy (GT)?

Gluteal tendinopathy is a common cause of pain and tenderness on the outside of the hip, often spreading down the thigh. It occurs when the tendons of the gluteal muscles become irritated or degenerate.

Since the 1950s, research has shown that this type of hip pain is often linked to other issues in the lower back or legs, making diagnosis more complex.

This article explores how physiotherapy can effectively manage GT, and also discusses prevention strategies, patient-reported outcome measures and future research directions.

Shoulder pain is a common problem that we see in the clinic. It becomes more prevalent as we age and can impact your ability to work, keep fit and active, and do daily tasks. The vast majority of shoulder pain in older people can be improved significantly with the right diagnosis and treatment, including an exercise program. Don't put up with it any longer. A great reminder :
At age 23, Tina Fey was working at a YMCA.
At age 23, Oprah was fired from her first reporting job.
At age 24, Stephen King was working as a janitor and living in a trailer.
At age 27, Vincent Van Gogh failed as a missionary and decided to go to art school.
At age 28, J.K. Rowling was a single parent living on welfare who was clinically depressed and at times has contemplated su***de.
At age 28, Wayne Coyne (from The Flaming Lips) was a fry cook.
At age 30, Harrison Ford was a carpenter.
At age 30, Martha Stewart was a stockbroker.
At age 37, Ang Lee was a stay-at-home-dad working odd jobs.
Julia Child released her first cookbook at age 39, and got her own cooking show at age 51.
Vera Wang failed to make the Olympic figure skating team, didn’t get the Editor-in-Chief position at Vogue, and designed her first dress at age 40.
Stan Lee didn’t release his first big comic book until he was 40.
Alan Rickman gave up his graphic design career to pursue acting at age 42.
Samuel L. Jackson didn’t get his first major movie role until he was 40.

Grandma Moses didn’t begin her painting career until age 76.
Louise Bourgeois didn’t become a famous artist until she was 78.
Whatever your dream is, it is not too late to achieve it. You aren’t a failure because you haven’t found fame and fortune by the age of 21.
Hell, it’s okay if you don’t even know what your dream is yet. Even if you’re flipping burgers, waiting tables or answering phones today, you never know where you’ll end up tomorrow.
Never tell yourself you’re too old to make it.
Never tell yourself you missed your chance.
Never tell yourself that you aren’t good enough.
You can do it. Whatever it is that sets your soul on fire.
