Why do pre-season injuries happen? 🤕🏉
Every year we see the same pattern as sport returns, not because people are doing the wrong thing, but because pre-season places new demands on the body.
Common reasons pre-season injuries occur 👇
👉Sudden spikes in training load
Going from little or no training straight into multiple high-intensity sessions per week
👉Doing too much, too soon
Muscles, tendons and joints need time to adapt - fitness often improves faster than tissue capacity
👉Old injuries not fully resolved
Last season’s “fine by finals” injury often reappears once load increases
👉Lack of sport-specific strength
Running fitness alone doesn’t prepare your body for sprinting, jumping, tackling or throwing
👉Not enough recovery
More sessions + work + life stress = reduced recovery capacity
⭐️The good news?⭐️
Most pre-season injuries are preventable with early assessment, smart load progression and the right strength work.
