🚽✨ Teaching Toileting Skills in Paediatric OT

At Cap Coast OT, toileting isn’t just a “milestone” it’s a confidence-building, independence-boosting life skill. And we’re here to make the journey calmer, easier, and developmentally supportive for both kids and families.

Children learn toileting at different ages and stages, and that’s completely okay. In OT, we focus on building the foundations that make toileting success possible:
✔️ Body awareness
✔️ Postural stability
✔️ Sensory processing
✔️ Routines and sequencing
✔️ Emotional regulation and confidence

Through play-based strategies, visual supports, and step-by-step skill building, we help children:
🧻 Recognise body signals
🧼 Manage underwear, clothing & hygiene
🪑 Sit securely on the toilet or potty
⏱️ Build predictable routines
😌 Reduce anxiety, overwhelm or sensory sensitivity

Every child’s toileting journey is unique and so is our approach. Whether it’s readiness skills, difficulty sitting, constipation challenges, fear of flushing, or sensory differences, our OTs work gently alongside families to create a plan that actually fits your child.
