A random phone call turned into something beautiful.

Nienke Smits called me with an idea: creating meaningful social experiences for older adults who are still curious, social, independent, and full of life, but who sometimes miss the right kind of connection.

That’s how 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙭𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙙𝙞 𝙊𝙧𝙤 was born.

Our first edition will bring a small group together for a warm afternoon at 𝙌𝙪𝙚 𝙋𝙖𝙨𝙖 𝙊𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙟𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙙 with good food, meaningful conversation, and transportation included.

Because connection, culture, laughter, and feeling part of something should never stop with age.

They can bring up new stories and enable people to participate in conversations they might have otherwise avoided, which is essential for their wellbeing. Just like we need to exercise our body, our brain needs it too.

This week, one of our care companions did some cognitive training with a client, and in the middle of it he said something that made us smile:

“For all these classes, I should get a certificate!” 😂🫡

Safe to say, that’s now officially on our to-do list.

He’s really been enjoying it.

All his life, he’s loved learning. He was a teacher himself, so this kind of activity feels natural to him.

And that’s what care is really about.

Finding things that are not only good for someone, but also feel familiar, meaningful, and true to who they are. ✨
