This area, which is since ancient times known as a place where mediterranean climate turns into continental, consists of five-six villages and hamlets with center in Bančići – village of centenarians. Village Bančići, a few kilometers from the center of Ljubinje, famous throughout the former Yugoslavia by long-lived residents, many of which have lived more than a hundred years, and famous by the miracle of always green oak on a Green Depth, and many species of medical plants and clean air, is a sort of “air spa”.Oak tradition says that St. Sava, coming back from the service in nearby village Mišljen and going through Bančići, rested in the shade of this oak, and after having a break he used to bless the oak with words “May you always have a shade this good” and so it remained. The botanists agree that the oak is a pronounced natural rarity because it is evergreen wood and not the deciduous wood - the kind of wood the oak should need to belong. They say that there are no oak this kind in nearby countries because it keeps the green colour of leaf throughout the winter period but it won’t multiply.Village Bančići is located on a Bančić area at an altitude of 400-600m, between Popovo and Ljubine field, Humina and Rudina in Herzegovina.Living centenarians in Bančići think that the source of their longevity are the three climates on their area: altered mediterranean, temperate continental and mountain climate, the water, food and the way of living, perpetual stay in the fresh air, in nature. The Bančić area is a typical Herzegovinian karst. This spacious area is covered with region of forests. There is a variety of submediterranean wood.
