Udruženje Humanitarna Nevladina Organizacija (UHO/NVO) "RUHAMA" je jedina organizacija / ustanova za zdravstvenu i palijativnu njegu na području ZE-Do kantona i šire, sa dugogodišnjom uspješnom tradicijom. Postojeća organizacija ustanove zasnovana je na postavljenom cilju uspješnog i dostojanstvenog starenja lica treće životne dobi. Dolaskom u našu ustanovu povjeravate nam brigu o vašem zdravlju. RUHAMA is local non-government, non political and democratic humanitarian organization, founded on November 1993. Name RUHAMA has a specific meaning: RU - first two letters of the managers family name, HA - Hatidza, M - Youth ("Mladost" in Bosnian), Medicine, and A - Action. It covers the population of people above the age of 60 years. The Team of 12 doctors, 12 nurses, 90 volunteers (from 12 to 22 years), social worker physician, lawyer and craftsman (plumber and electrician) has been carrying out all services of supporting people in need. The specific objective of the program is continuation of regular and systematic support to the home visiting program , run by Ruhamas medical team and volunteers, and it includes the following :
-Help in the house
90 young activists work in the organization , and help the elderly.They bring food to the homes of disabled persons , help them to maintain hygiene , change bed linen and everything else necessary at moment. Beside the help in the house and food distribution as well , young volunteers from "RUHAMA" always have a nice world for old and lonely people.The young volunteers dignify their essence trough this humanitarian work, they become aware of themselves being useful to the society in these difficult circumstances. There are 30 refugees among these volunteers who through engagement in the humanitarian activities cope with their own situation easily. RUHAMA trains these young volunteer is responsible for 10 beneficiaries, and volunteers pay visit weekly (usually, volunteers and the beneficiaries are living in the neighborhood). Beside volunteers who visit beneficiaries, other activists from RUHAMA (doctors, nurses, psychiatrists, administrative staff)are also volunteers from Zenica. They help whenever required.
-Medical care
Aim of medical care is to meet the needs for health care that is organized trough the team of doctors and nurses who visits beneficiaries regularly. The aim of the assistance in this difficult situation is to provide these persons with proper assistance, and medical assistance free of charge when the governmental medical institution can not cope with the medical problems.
-Psycho - social help
Social worker and psychologist are in charge to, through the conversation in these hopeless time, provide the beneficiaries with psycho - social support, and assess their needs whenever required
-Dentist
Despite the lack of dental materials, RUHAMA provides its beneficiaries with different services, such as: pulling teeth out, gluing and fixing false teeth. Those services are free of charge.
-Personal hygiene
58 years old women, who joined RUHAMA , formed a special team, together with young volunteers, that assists the immobile persons in changing the clothes, bathing, hair cutting, shaving and other essential services. RUHAMA`s aim is to bring people closer to each other, so that they could help each other in every moment. As the reword for all efforts of RUHAMA and its team made on humanitarian aid and support of elderliness, this organization was recognized as one of the World Humanitarian organization, in 1995. RUHAMA was awarded with DIPLOMA OF ZENICA CITY that was the recognition given by the Government and Zenica Municipality for its cordial contribution in the field of humanitarian activities. Humanitarian Organization RUHAMA has always had a good cooperation with the Government, local authorities, Cantonal Hospital and other medical institutions, and International humanitarian agencies, such as: UNHCR, WFP, WHO, MSF, EQUILIBRIE, AICF, UMCOR, DRC, SFOR, TURK-bat etc. The ECHO contribution trough UN High Commissioner for Refugees has been the main implementing partner of RUHAMA. The support of all foreign donators has always been priceless support to the activities of RUHAMA that saved thousands of old and ill people from hunger, coldness and health problems. There were been 700.000 different services carried out through the project of RUHAMA such as: food and fire-wood distribution; distribution of hygienic kits, wheel chairs, eye - glasses, stoves, clothes; visits and medical treatments carrying out by doctors and nurses; visit of volunteers, hairdresser,social worker and craftsmen. Totally 2.500 people from two Municipalities - Zenica and Kakanj are in position to be supported by RUHAMA. One of the most important future project of RUHAMA is the Geriatric Center that would help ill and disabled elderliness from Zenica and Kakanj, and other places in the region. Therefore, RUHAMA would be the first local NGO in Bosnia and Herzegovina working on HOME CARE Project and Geriatric Center by self financing program. These projects would help not just domestic population, but returnees, as well. The main goal of RUHAMA is to keep on struggling to help people in need, drying to bring a ray of light into their lives.
