We're still in the month of November - Diabetes Awareness Month.

You’ve seen the facts and figures - diabetes is a disease that impacts many here in Barbados.

One of the reasons we are so impacted by this disease is due to our diet - we love our starches. 👈🏾

My colleagues and I at believe in the power of food. 🍠🌽🍅🥦

Foods that can help manage diabetes include:

- Beans and peas as a healthy alternative to starchy foods

- Fish, which is high in omega 3s and can lower inflammation

- Apples, and other fruits with edible skin can help regulate blood glucose levels

- Nuts which make an excellent snack option

I can create a meal plan that helps you manage your blood sugar levels. Contact me at 425-8593 or visit bajandietdesigns.bb for more details.

Eating tomatoes as part of a healthy diet along with exercise can lower your blood pressure. You read right!

At we love these delicious guys because they contain:
▶ Vitamin C (antioxidant)
▶ Potassium (beneficial for blood pressure control and heart disease prevention)
▶ Vitamin K (for blood clotting and bone health
▶ Folate (for normal tissue growth and cell function).

In addition, you can find lycopene, beta carotene, naringenin and chlorogenic acid as well.

They’re so versatile you can add tomatoes to soups, stews, sauces, casseroles, pizza… just about anything your heart desires. And we think it's fun that they come in different shapes, sizes and colours.

What about you? Do you like tomatoes?

Tomato is having an identity crisis. 😂 He’s a fruit that feels like a vegetable.

So why do some label tomatoes as fruit and others don’t?

Fruit are formed from flowers and have seeds, which sounds like tomato right? But fruit is usually sweet or tart and great for jams, desserts and pastries. Tomato jam puff? Probably not. 😐

Vegetables are usually blander with tougher skin. Vegetables are also great sliced, diced, roasted, in salads, soups, stews, sauces, and casseroles; just like tomatoes.

Regardless, I love them from my head to-ma-toes (I couldn’t resist).

Which side are you on? Fruit or vegetable?

💧 Here’s the drip 💧

Water plays an integral role in our internal ecosystem. In order to be at peak performance, especially in this Caribbean heat 🥵, it’s important to stay hydrated.

Experts recommend 64 ounces a day, which adds up to 8 glasses.

This number may seem intimidating, but you can easily achieve this by:

1. Setting daily goals and reminders
2. Utilizing a reusable water bottle
3. Flavoring your water with fresh produce

Remember, one sip can save. Take the right step in building healthy habits in your life. Stay hydrated, drink water.
