I stared Attending the Qeh with a patient a few weeks ago , and all my experiences with the doctors and their medical team so far has been fantastic. They took the time out to explain the cause of the illness at hand as well as the possible solutions to correcting and controlling the illness.
My interactions with the nurses in the out patients section however leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Each time i visit i am appalled. Patients are made to wait from 8 am to 4 pm to see a doctor. There is no number system . People do not get dealt with on first come bases even though they have an appointment. Patients with 1pm appointments are seen before 8:30 am patients. Some nurses even have the gall to announce to morning patients that they can be there till 4pm. Another on going problem is missing patient notes and no effort by nurses to get them from records unless the doctor ask. I actually heard a patient said this have been happening for years.

I have been working in the health care system for quite a few years now and have heard many stories good and bad. However i have never experience being a patient in the public health system until two months ago. Some of my interactions with medical personnel made me feel proud and others made me feel appalled. Feel free to openly share your experiences with your fellow barbadians and let us help each other.
