In Loving Memory of the life of:

Hartley Leroy (Roy) Hurst





The late Hartley Leroy Hurst of Flint Hall, St. Michael passed away at age 76 in the comfort of his home on Thursday, August 21, 2025.



Better known to his relatives and friends as “Roy”, he was born in Chalky Mount, St. Andrew where he resided until his relocation to Flint Hall, St. Michael to pursue his dream of becoming a Master Mechanic.



Following his apprenticeship at the Fix It Right Garage, Roy subsequently established his own proprietorship, and today, he is credited for having taught and trained many of his fellow Barbadians to be mechanics. Roy’s expertise as an auto mechanic also earned him a second career at Sir Grantley Adams International Airport of Barbados where he served as a mechanic on the Jetways of airplanes up until his retirement, and where he was best known by his peers as the Grand Master mechanic.



Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Clara and Leonard Hurst, his grandparents, and several of his aunts, uncles, and cousins including Monica Marshall (USA) who passed away earlier this year.



Roy is survived by his son, Dwayne Hurst, brother Winston Holder, sisters Odessa Sobers, Olga Fields (UK), Gladine Kirton (USA) cousins, Dr Jocelind Gant, Sam Carter (USA), Rodney Marshall (USA), Alville Atherley (USA) and the Brewster family (USA); Grandson Naje Ward; Nephew Steven Kirton Jr; Nieces Ann, Yvette, Jennifer and Carrolin Holder; Brothers-in-law Steven Kirton. Sr. and Winston Fields, and his best friend, Terry Jacobs, and many more who are mourning his loss.



Despite Roy’s failing health during his retirement, Roy enjoyed entertaining his loved ones and friends. Simply stated, Roy was the Groit of the family, and he would forever be missed.
