Have you been seeing or hearing the term EMDR quite frequently?

Not sure if it would be a good fit for you? That’s okay, curiosity is a great place to start.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy approach designed to help people process distressing memories, trauma, and overwhelming experiences in a structured and supportive way.

Let’s explore it together. 💙

Visit www.therelationalpractices.com to book a consultation and learn whether EMDR aligns with your needs and goals.

In today’s healthcare landscape, physicians are often the first and sometimes only point of contact for those struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, or relational stress. Many patients walk into appointments carrying more than they can name.

As a therapist, I’ve worked with many individuals and families who say, “My doctor suggested I come.” That simple referral can be life-changing.

If you’re a healthcare professional or simply curious about how collaborative care can better support patients, I invite you to read the full blog post.

What does community mean? ❤️

Community is more than proximity. It’s presence. It’s safety. It’s accountability. It’s knowing you don’t have to carry everything alone.

For men and boys, community is more than just gathering, it’s belonging. It’s having a space where you feel seen, heard, and understood. It’s shared stories, shared strength, and shared growth.

Creating community means:
• Building safe spaces for honest conversations
• Encouraging vulnerability without judgment
• Mentoring and uplifting one another
• Celebrating culture, resilience, and excellence
• Breaking cycles of silence and isolation

At The Relational Practices, we are committed to holding space for men and boys to create healthy community, foster connection, and grow in ways that honour their full humanity.

We'd also like to hear from you. Share what community means to you below!

Mental breaks matter significantly. 🧠✨

Your mind wasn’t designed to be “on” all the time. Constant pressure, decision-making, and emotional output without pause can lead to burnout, irritability, and reduced focus. Taking intentional breaks isn’t laziness, it’s regulation.

Short pauses throughout your day help:
• Reset your nervous system
• Improve concentration and productivity
• Reduce stress and overwhelm
• Support emotional balance

Even 5–10 minutes to breathe deeply, stretch, step outside, or sit in silence can make a difference.

If you’ve been pushing nonstop, consider this your reminder to pause today.

Feeling nervous in the first session is normal. You’re taking a risk, sharing personal parts of your life with someone new. Trust takes time.

What matters early is this:
• Do you feel warmth and respect?
• Do you feel listened to, without judgment?
• Do you feel safe enough to be honest?
• Are you and your therapist “vibing” (comfortable, accepted, understood)?

And if it doesn’t feel right, it’s okay to say so. Therapy is collaborative. Your feedback matters. If your needs still aren’t being heard, it’s reasonable to try someone else.

If you’re ready to take the next step, and you’re in the Caribbean and you’d like online support, The Relational Practices Ltd. offers a brief consultation to help you get matched with the right clinician. Send us a text or WhatsApp/text 1-246-233-6758 to get started. Save this post for later, and share it with someone who might need it.

Notice what’s underneath the hesitation
Identifying whether it’s fear of judgment, abandonment, or misunderstanding helps you address the real barrier, not just the silence.

Valentine’s Day isn’t just about flowers or grand gestures ❤️

It’s an opportunity to pause, reconnect, and intentionally nurture your relationship. Celebrating can create space to express appreciation, communicate openly, and remind each other why you chose this partnership. Even small moments of presence and gratitude strengthen emotional bonds.

Whether it’s a meaningful conversation or shared activity today, remember the connection is what truly matters.💖🥰

When children are given space to share what they feel through words, play, or creativity, they develop emotional awareness, confidence, and healthier coping skills. Supporting expression isn’t just about listening; it’s about creating safety for growth and understanding.

Changes in behaviour, withdrawal, irritability, or increased sensitivity can be signs that a child is feeling overwhelmed. These responses aren’t simply “acting out,” they may be communication. Creating space for listening, reassurance, and emotional support helps children feel safe and understood.

If you’re concerned about your child’s emotional well-being, support is available. Visit our website www.therelationalpractices.com to learn more (link in bio).

“Expression is not weakness—it’s how children process and heal.”

Continuing the discussion with Dr. Nicole Lynch, Shawn Callender, Ambrose, and Maria Carter on Let’s Talk Family on CITA 90.1 FM about depression and emotional well-being.

When children are encouraged to express their feelings, they build emotional awareness, resilience, and healthier coping skills that support their growth and mental wellness.

If you or your family need guidance, The Relational Practices can provide resources and support.

Finding a therapist is not only about credentials, but it’s also about fit. If you can, speak with a few clinicians and ask a short set of questions before you commit. The goal is to find someone who feels skilled and safe.
Save this as your consultation checklist. Share it with someone who’s been looking for a therapist.
