DRUGS ARE NOT AS COLORFUL AS IT SEEMS

International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is a key plank in the United Nations’ war on drugs. Its on 26th june.

Originally instigated by a resolution of a special session on drugs of the UN’s General Assembly in 1987, the annual awareness day was founded to mark the centenary of China’s early efforts to combat the trade in o***m – widely regarded as the start of the international war on drugs.
The theme for the 2020 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking “Better Knowledge for Better Care” emphasizes the need to improve the understanding of the world drug problem.

People adhered to different type of myths regarding drug abuse.Lets see some of them.
MYTH AND REAL FACT OF DRUG:
1.Taking drugs will boost energy
Kinds of addiction from betel nut to he**in are dangerous for health.Gradually and slowly, these drugs affect your health.
2. Addicted Individuals Caused Their Own Drug Addictions
Arguably the most dangerous myth about drug addiction is that people deliberately choose to be addicted to drugs. Drug addiction is essentially a brain disorder, and addiction is never the fault of the user.
3. Just Reducing Drug Use is Better and Easier than Quitting Altogether
To truly recover from addiction, it’s not enough to simply cut down on drug use. A complete detox is necessary to break ties from drugs and improve overall physical health.
4.Drug Addiction Can be Treated in a Matter of Days
Some particularly dangerous myths about drug addiction relate to the average length of treatment. A week of detox simply isn’t enough for lasting recovery, and many researchers believe that it takes a minimum of 21 days in inpatient therapy or more than 90 days in outpatient therapy to secure lasting results.
5.Prescription Drugs Aren’t “Real” Drugs
Many people believe that prescription medication addictions aren’t as problematic or common as drugs like he**in or m**h.
6.Addicted Individuals are Beyond Help

Unfortunately, some people still believe that drug-addicted individuals are beyond help and can’t ever enjoy true rehabilitation. Although relapse rates do hover between 40 and 60%, that still means that roughly half of those who complete rehab say goodbye forever to drug use.
Understanding the truth behind common myths about drug addiction can make it easier to achieve the ultimate goal of recovery.

Effects of drug abuse :
The use of drugs for some other purposes than prescribed recommendations can lead to drug abuse.Drug abuse can result in withdrawal symptoms when people are being deprived of drugs. Drugs like he**in can cause sleepiness and reduce breathing, while co***ne can increase the heart rate.

Addiction to drugs can also result in psychological and mental problems with mood swings and depression.
Sometimes, drug effects can also lead to antisocial behavior like violence, crime and terrorism
Preventive Measures:
● Maintaining a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet, exercise and proper rest can help to prevent habits like drug abuse.
● Rehabilitating people by diverting their minds towards meditation and practicing yoga can help to prevent illicit drug use.
● Counseling or psychotherapy, involving discussions with the family, can help in coping with drug addiction.
● Self-help groups where patients meet others who are struggling with the same problem can often boost motivation and be a useful source of education and information.

The illegal drug trade or drug trafficking is a global black market dedicated to the cultivation, manufacture, distribution and sale of drugs that are subject to drug prohibition laws. Most jurisdictions prohibit trade, except under license, of many types of drugs through the use of drug prohibition laws. The UN's 2007 World Drug Report puts the value of the illegal drug trade at US$322 billion a year.

So lets all unite on this day and fight against myth & stigmatization with fact Knowledge & respect.Help our child and youth grow healthy & safe. And promote access to controlled medicines while preventing diversion and nonmedical use.
