History:
It felt really heavy, almost like my chest was shrinking and I couldn’t breathe. I fell down and before I knew it someone was beating me. My body became cold and it felt like I was paralyzed. Slowly I couldn’t see anything. To this day I wouldn’t have known what was wrong with me if I didn’t pick up the phone and ask for help. It was a panic attack. Later on I was diagnosed with clinical depression. And the person who was beating me was me.
This is Maria Mumu, the founder and CEO of Moshal. Just like my story, there’s a thousand other untold ones, and ones that fade away with those who could not make it. In 2016 my best friend hung himself. In 2018, a junior jumped from the staircase. All the warning signs were ignored. When I finally got out of that dark place, I knew it wasn’t just about me and I owe it to all of you because I know how it feels like to scream at the top of your lungs and have nobody listen.
So here’s Moshal for you. Moshal wants to write its victory story by helping you all to write yours and make history.
What is Moshal?
Moshal Foundation is a youth-oriented mental health organization where we bring together all the young survivors on one platform to work towards breaking the stigma and debunking myths related to mental health. We strive to make mental healthcare accessible, aordable and eective to all through our diverse panel consisting of counselors, psychotherapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists who keep up with progressive research enabling therapy and counseling services both nationally and internationally whether it's online through audio calls, video calls and text messaging or face-to-face.
We believe that all these make our youth-led organization a complete package from continuous feedbacks to follow-ups to quality services. Moshal strives to be there in your most vulnerable moment and guide you to nd the best version of yourself. We intend to write our victory story by helping you write yours!
Moshal’s Objectives:
Breaking the Stigma:
Mental health is a controversial topic in Bangladesh. It isn’t widely talked about in our culture, hence creating stereotypes and misconceptions. As a result, those who suffer from mental health problems not only struggle with the symptoms of their disorders but put up with constant discrimination from society and sometimes even their families. This leads them to suffer alone - making them hesitate to seek psychological help. We plan to enlighten those around us by giving relevant information and put an end to this dangerous stigma ensuring that no one is robbed of leading a good life.
Providing Counseling Services:
It can be very difficult to function properly in day-to-day life with untreated mental health issues or developmental disorders. Therapy helps to manage the symptoms of mental illness so that one can live a better, more fulfilling life. Moshal aims to connect those suffering from a wide range of psychological or developmental issues included but not limited to depression, anxiety, PTSD or ADHD to therapists and counselors who can help at an affordable price.
Our client relations team is trained by experts in multiple PFA modules so that they can empathize with you. Once we are approached on our social media and sites, our client relations team schedules the client to their best fit. Taking feedbacks and following up is also part of our regime. Our client relations team checks up on our clients even months after they receive treatment to make sure that they are doing well.
Improving Parent-Child Relationships:
Psychologists know all too well that the relationship between parents and children is often disrupted by the generation gap that exists between them. It can become difficult for parents to understand the unique issues that their children face, and children in turn feel emotionally disconnected from their parents. Often this lack of communication can take a toll on the relationship between a parent and a child.
Moshal wants to arrange family therapy sessions with counselors and therapists to improve rocky relationships between parents and children. Therapists will focus on teaching parents effective parenting techniques, and also provide training on parenting children with disabilities.
Improving Student-Teacher Relationships:
Moshal's aim is to create safe and non-judgmental learning environments in educational institutes. To establish this, Moshal will arrange workshops in different schools with the assistance of educational or school psychologists. Through these workshops, Moshal aims to prevent bullying on school premises, spread awareness about substance abuse among students, and train teachers on effective teaching strategies.
Personality Development
We believe that self-development is the first step towards ensuring a happier future for our youth. Too often, young people are left feeling incapable, unmotivated, and overwhelmed by the expectations placed on them. To help cope with these challenges we want to offer valuable life-coaching and counseling sessions with qualified therapists. In these sessions, young people are going to learn how to stay motivated, be productive, and cope with excess stress. They will also develop their self-esteem, confidence, and leadership skills so that they regain their self-worth.
Within the organization, different types of leadership are trained. We arrange for in-house activities where sessions are conducted by counselors for our members to monitor and ensure their psychological well-being. A collection of analyses is also done for each individual after looking into multiple personalities, anxiety, and depression tests.
