Oral lichen planus is a inflammatory condition that affects mucous membranes inside your mouth. Oral lichen planus may appear as white, lacy patches; red, swollen tissues; or open sores, these lesions may cause burning, pain or other discomfort.
Oral lichen planus can't be passed from one person to another. The disorder occurs when the immune system mounts an attack against cells of the oral mucous membranes for unknown reasons.
Signs and symptoms
Oral lichen planus may appear as white, lacy patches; red, swollen tissues; or open sores. These lesions may cause burning, pain dry mouth and bad taste or other discomfort.

Treatment/ Management
Generally, no medication is necessary for the benign form of this disease (reticular lichen planus). In the case of severe pain and a burning sensation, high-potency topical corticosteroids remain the most reliably effective treatment modality laser therapy or chemotherapy, Oral hygiene and corrective dentistry play a major role in the management of OLP and consultation with a dentist or oral medicine specialist is helpful.
