EFA starts...

The idea behind EFA started in Chicago in early 2016 between two friends. Some quick research and a few short conversations confirmed that the population demographics in Bangladesh was crying out for artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare. Diagnos and its CARA platform seemed that perfect fit with which to quickly and efficiently identify the growing population at risk of blindness (diabetic retinopathy - DR) due to diabetes.

Statistics vary..., but are alarming all the same. Bangladesh has some 7.1m adults living with diabetes..., which is expected to nearly double by 2040 to 13.6m (DR Barometer Survey). National prevalence rates (7.9% currently and among the highest in the world) are also rising..., while some 3.6m people are estimated to be entirely undiagnosed. Changes to food habits (we are consuming 2.6x more sugar per year than we did 20 years ago) and lifestyle are not helping.
