Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute (BEHRI) has conducted cataract surgeries on 49 underprivileged patients free of charge.
The daylong surgery took place on Thursday at the BEHRI campus in the capital’s Bashundhara Residential Area.
The programme was jointly organised by Vision Care Foundation and Chikitsa Sahayata Kendra Chapainawabganj. Under the supervision of Dr Saleh Ahmed, surgeries were performed by Dr Akhter Ferdousi Jahan, Dr Jerin Parveen, and Dr Nusrat Lubna Islam.
Of the 49 patients, 19 were men and 30 women.
Speaking about the initiative, BEHRI Manager Ahsan Habib said the effort aims to support needy and visually impaired patients in receiving essential eye care.
"This initiative has been ongoing to serve the underprivileged. Free eye camps like this have been organised across the country, and so far, more than 3,444 patients have received free surgeries through this programme," he said.
Earlier, on 4 February, a free eye treatment camp was held at Krishna Gobindapur Degree College in Chapainawabganj, where 1,700 patients received free medical services. Among them, 200 were selected for surgery due to severe conditions.
