The Dhaka National Medical College is the direct successor to the Dhaka National Medical Institute Hospital, which was established in 1925 by a generous philanthropist of the then East Bengal as a part of non-cooperation movement against the British rule. The Institute was closed in 1965 but the hospital continued to function with the help of local elites & social workers. took special interest in this organization & the hospital started getting regular government funding. Thereafter, the then Health Advisor late Prof. Ibrahim laid the foundation of the present hospital building in 1976. Former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia inaugurated the new College on 15th October 1995, and thus it came to be known as the Dhaka National Medical College and Hospital. Since then the College has seen rapid development and has become one of the best private medical colleges in the country. A new seven storied College building has already been completed; it accommodates the various academic departments of the College with planned lecture galleries, modern well equipped practical Labs, central library, computer lab, prayer rooms, common rooms for the students as well as an administrative section. An attached dorm for female students is in the offing. The College has a band of dedicated, experienced and well qualified professors trained from home & abroad who are continuously engaged in imparting education & training to the students. By maintaining a high standard of medical education, DNMC is staying true to its vision to be the best in the field of medical education and research and to remain in the forefront of health care providers in Dhaka.
