About BTSH
Bangladesh Thalassaemia Samity Hospital (BTSH) was established in 2004 under the management of Bangladesh Thalassaemia Samity (BTS) with a hope to strengthening our capacity to serve the nation. We have 3500 registered patients and around 1200 patients come to hospital for blood transfusion and related services. Presently we are providing 30 blood transfusions daily on daycare basis.
In the eighties Thalassaemia patient support and management facility was limited within blood transfusion, then the only way to support the life of a Thalassaemia patient. In 1983, a son of Mr. Omar Golam Rabbany, President of Bangladesh Thalassaemia Samity & Hospital was clinically diagnosed as Thalassaemiac. To confirm the diagnosis he had to go to Delhi, India for Hb-Electrophoresis test, as the facility was not available at that time in Dhaka. This led Mr. Rabbany to take initiative to gather few parents to establish a blood transfusion centre to support the victims of this deadly disease in 1988.
Parents of thalassaemia patients under the leadership of O G Rabbany had taken the challenge to fight against this deadly disease, so that the children could lead a normal life. In order to bring smile on the face of the children they established a society in the name and style of Bangladesh Thalassaemia Samity (BTS) in the year 1994 having registration with Social Welfare Ministry, Bangladesh Government. This endeavor of Mr. O G Rabbany ultimately led BTS to establish the BTS Hospital.
