A new study from the University of Gothenburg reveals a growing contrast in adolescent mental health. While more teens today report feeling mentally well, those experiencing depressive symptoms are reporting more intense self-deprecation and hopelessness than teens did 15 years ago.
🔹 In 2019-2020, 33% of teens reported strong mental well-being, compared to only 15% in 2004.
🔹 Yet, depressive symptoms also became more severe, especially among young girls—with thoughts like "I am bad all the time" and "Nothing is fun at all."
The message is clear: some teens are thriving, but others are suffering more deeply than ever before.
💡 The good news? More open conversations about mental health may be helping teens express their struggles more honestly. But we need stronger support systems in schools, families, and communities to catch those falling through the cracks.
At BloomAid, we are here to listen, support, and help young people find their balance. 🍀
