A Southeast Asia First in Heart Valve Innovation

On 10 June, our cardiology team of Dr Paul Chiam, Dr Lim Choon Pin and Dr Kelvin Chua achieved a major milestone at Mount Elizabeth Novena by performing Southeast Asia’s first TAVI using the next-generation Sapien 3 Ultra RESILIA™ valve, a game-changing option for patients with severe aortic valve stenosis.

Their patient, a 63-year-old woman with multiple health conditions, was not suited for open-heart surgery. Instead, she underwent a minimally invasive catheter-based valve replacement without general anaesthesia and was discharged the very next day.
