The National Liver Foundation of Bangladesh observed World Hepatitis Day (WHD) 2025 with a series of impactful programs aimed at raising awareness, promoting prevention, and inspiring collective action against viral hepatitis.
Theme: “Let’s break it down”. Let’s work together to overcome all the obstacles & barriers to control viral hepatitis & to achieve ELIMINATION 2030.
Most of the events was held at the Daffodil International University (DIU) campus with active participation of the Department of Public Health, DIU.
Key Activities
• Free Hepatitis B Vaccination for orphan children at Government Children’s Home (Girls), Sylhet.
• Hepatitis Testing Program for 200 students of Daffodil International University (DIU). Dhaka.
• Awareness Survey: Participation of 2,000 DIU students.
• Hepatitis Awareness Poster Competition: Participation of 39 student teams among students of DIU.
• Friendly Football Match,
• Awareness rally & leaflet distribution
• Special WHD ‘Let’s break it down’ Conference at DIU campus.
• Publication of WHD souvenirs and newspaper articles.
• Special Television Program aired on ATN Bangla featuring Prof. Mohammad Ali and Prof. M. Anisur Rahman.
• Media Coverage in Prothom Alo, Kaler Kantha, and The Business Standard.
A special highlight was a message from Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of the Government of Bangladesh and Nobel Peace Laureate, urging united efforts to eliminate hepatitis by 2030.
Hepatitis Awareness Poster Competition – WHD 2025
Held at the DIU campus in collaboration with the Department of Public Health, this event saw enthusiastic participation from 39 student teams representing various departments among 20,000 DIU students. The posters combined creativity, artistry, and solid public health messages on hepatitis prevention and control.
Prof. Mohammad Ali, serving on the judging panel, praised the students’ dedication, innovative thinking, and in-depth understanding of hepatitis issues. Awards were presented to the top 10 posters, with special recognition for the best three. The top three teams also presented their posters at the WHD conference.
WHD 2025 “Let’s break it down” Conference
Jointly organized by the National Liver Foundation of Bangladesh and DIU on 28 July 2025 at the DIU campus, the conference emphasized:
• Expanding awareness, prevention, treatment, and control programs nationwide.
• Preventing mother-to-child transmission of Hepatitis B, including timely birth-dose vaccination.
• Extending hepatitis services to rural populations.
Speakers urged all stakeholders to work together to achieve the WHO goal of hepatitis elimination by 2030.
