đŸ“ŖAnd there we have it! Clinician to Researcher: The Foundation Course has officially concluded.

This was something different.

It was different than all of the benevolently intended but scarcely useful lectures on research and epidemiology that we attend in our community medicine class.
It was different than the information dense but seldom applied research videos on YouTube.
It was different than various workshops and seminars on how to be a researcher.

This course embodied the philosophy of it's instructors -

"Not difficult, just different."

"Dirty hands, clean mind."

and of course, "Be a bit āĻ–āĻžāχāĻļāϟāĻž, to be a great researcher."

The conference room where this course was being conducted was, for the weekends, our very own cornucopia of insights, novel experiences and mesmerizing tales.

To talk about Flora ma'am, there aren't enough words. She represented the possibilities in our medical world, what can be achieved when we adhere to being sincere and follow our passion. She was the breath of fresh air among all this necrotized, self debilitating view that we had over our professional life. She inspired us, educated us, encouraged us to think.

And of course, we must acknowledge the associates and co instructors of this course.

âšĒ Dr. Nawroz Afreen ma'am was one of the sweetest, most patient, and most talented teachers we have had the fortune to come across.

âšĒ Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Sir was the friendliest and the one of the most genuine persons ever.

âšĒ Dr. Sohel R Chowdhury Sir had invaluable insights, and inspiring experiences like no other.

âšĒ Dr. Shamsad Rabbani Sir was really sincere, had the patient of a saint, listened to us and taught us beautifully.

âšĒ Dr. Shafia Shaheen ma'am explained very hard to follow topics really easily, and opened the doors to our curiosity and critical thinking.

âšĒ Dr. Ahmed Raihan Sharif Sir shared the most practical experiences and implementable techniques to be a great researcher such as himself.
âšĒ And last but definitely not least, Dr. Shams El Arifeen Sir taught us invaluable lessons and expelled our deep rooted fears of failure and ignorance.

This course inspired the participants to think for themselves, to be confident about their strengths, and to be aware of their shortcomings. Ultimately, this course has set us on the path to being a Clinician Researcher 🏆

👉Through this course, the participants have developed FOUR actionable and relevant research proposals, which we'll continue to work on and turn into fully fledged research publications!

Special thanks goes to the logistics team, for managing the course smoothly and without any hiccups, and of course, thanks goes the Dhaka Medical Research and Academic Club, for making this whole thing possible.

The summaries of each of the sessions, containing insights and key points from the course, will be gradually uploaded, and can be accessed through the event page. So feel free to keep an eye for that.

For now, this is us signing off! Stay curious!

If a child has fever, red eyes, cough, and then suddenly develops a rash, it could be measles, a highly contagious infection caused by the Measles virus that spreads easily through coughing and sneezing especially in crowded settings like schools transport and households in Bangladesh. Symptoms often begin with high fever, runny nose, cough, and red watery eyes followed by a rash that starts on the face and spreads downwards. Doctors may notice tiny white spots inside the mouth called Koplik spots, which appear early and help in the diagnosis of measles. The infection can lead to serious complications including pneumonia, diarrhea malnutrition, and even blindness, particularly in undernourished children. Fortunately for us, it is a preventable disease. The MR vaccine is safe, widely available, and just two doses provide strong protection. Parents should take advantage of the national vaccination campaigns to ensure the vaccination of their children. If symptoms appear, keep the child isolated, maintain hydration, and seek medical care early to reduce complications. Protecting your child also helps protect the entire community!

The last two days went by in a blur, and Sessions Two and Three of Clinician to Researcher: The Foundation Course have concluded.

In these sessions, our instructor Prof. Meerjady Sabrina Flora ma'am, along with Dr. Nawroz Afreen ma'am, focused on the nitty gritty of research. Day 2 was spent on highlighting the key aspects of writing an ideal research proposal and what steps to take to get there.
Day 3 was about the applied portions of research, namely Study Designs, Data Collection Methods and Sampling principles, which were conducted by brilliant minds such as Prof Sohel R. Chowdhury, General Secretary of Epidemiological Association of Bangladesh-EPAB and Head of Epidemiology at NHFRI, Dr. Mahbubur Rahman, Asst. Prof. of Community Medicine at IEDCR, Dr. Shamsad Rabbani Khan from CDC, DGHS respectively.
We express our boundless gratitude to them for making the time to teach and share their valuable experiences with us.

These two sessions solidified our understanding of the basics of research. Moreover, under the guidance of Flora ma'am, all the participants were divided into groups and each group came up with a poignant research topic.
These topics, hopefully, will turn into viable research proposal by the end of the course and we will have an opportunity to do real world research with the knowledge and insights from this course.

As always, the lesson summaries of these two sessions will be uploaded on our website soon, so keep an eye out for that.

Cheers!

Your brain is not designed for constant rushing.

When you’re always in a hurry, your body shifts into fight or flight mode. Cortisol rises, your focus drops, and your prefrontal cortex—the part responsible for decision making and clarity—starts to underperform.

That’s why you forget things, make small mistakes, and feel mentally scattered when you’re rushing.

This isn’t laziness. This is neuroscience.

Chronic stress doesn’t just affect your mood—it impacts your memory, attention span, and even your ability to think clearly and make aligned decisions.

So maybe it’s not about being on time all the time.
Maybe it’s about protecting your nervous system.

Because a regulated mind will always outperform a rushed one.

Save this as a reminder to slow down.

🎉And this concludes the first brilliant session of Clinician to Researcher: The Foundation Course. The day was simply outstanding!

After a brief but amazing ice-breaking session, the course received its official inauguration in the presence of Dr. Meerjady Sabrina Flora, Vice Principal Dr. Musarrat Sultana, and Dr. Nawroz Afreen. All are our precious alumni, and they received our fledgling attempts at greeting them wonderfully.

In fact, the cheerful sibling energy between the so-called "scary" Flora ma'am and the "stern" VP ma'am was almost too joyous to witness.

There was a little test for us all, and we all contributed to setting up a set of ground rules, after which the session fully kicked off.

Flora ma'am was unlike any teacher we've ever encountered before. She paid attention to each and every one of us while also commanding the entire room expertly. She simplified complex topics, made us feel heard, and was welcoming while also being strict.
In her words: "Learning how to conduct research is not difficult, just different."

Nawroz ma'am was excellent as well. She expertly demonstrated the hands-on aspects of planning and synthesizing research topics.

The first part of the day involved learning the very basics of research—what it's actually about, its types, criteria, and methods. The second part is where the session really took off!

Flora ma'am divided us into pairs and asked us to formulate research topics. She essentially unleashed our creativity and potential, and we had so much fun! Some of the participants even stuck around despite having card exams the next day.

All in all, the first day of the Clinician to Researcher course exceeded all our expectations. Our wholehearted gratitude goes toward Flora ma'am for giving us this amazing session, and we eagerly await what's coming in the future. ✨
