Top Ten Reasons to Support Mercury-Free Dentistry

Amalgam pollutes our environment:
Amalgam pollutes
1) water via dental clinic releases and human waste;
2) air via cremation, dental clinic emissions, sludge incineration, and respiration; and
3) land via landfills, burials, and fertilizer. Once in the environment, dental mercury converts to its even more toxic form: methylmercury and becomes a major source of mercury in the fish people eat. Dental mercury in the environment can cause brain damage and neurological problems, especially for children and the unborn babies, according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Amalgam endangers our health:
Amalgam emits mercury vapor even after it is implanted into the body. This mercury is bioaccumulative, and it crosses the placenta to accumulate in fetuses as well. Dental amalgam's mercury is a known health risk, especially for children, fetuses, nursing infants, and people with impaired kidney function especially. Food and Drug Administration concedes that the developing neurological systems of children and fetuses are more susceptible to "the neurotoxic effects of mercury vapor" - and that there is no evidence that amalgam is safe for these populations. Amalgam damages teeth:
Placing amalgam requires the removal of a significant amount of healthy tooth matter. This removal, in turn, weakens overall tooth structure which increases the need for future dental work. On top of that, amalgam fillings - which expand and contract over time - crack teeth and once again create the need for still more dental work. Amalgam endangers dental workers:
Due to mercury exposure from amalgam in the workplace, studies have shown that dental workers have elevated systemic mercury levels. Few of these dental workers – mostly women of child-bearing age - are given protective garb or air masks to minimize their exposure to mercury; many are not aware of the risks of occupational mercury exposure. As a result, dental workers have reported neurological problems, reproductive failures, and birth defects caused by amalgam in the workplace. Amalgam is frequently implanted without informed consent:
Most dentists do not inform consumers that amalgam contains mercury. As a result, over 76% of consumers do not know that amalgam is mainly mercury according to Zogby polls. But once they are informed, 77% of people do not want mercury fillings - and they were even willing to pay more to avoid this unnecessary source of mercury exposure. Amalgam perpetuates social injustice:
While middle class consumers opt for mercury-free filling materials, people in developing nations, low-income families, minorities, military personnel, prisoners, and people with disabilities are still subjected to amalgam. Racial minorities are more likely to receive amalgam; for example, dentists place almost 25% more mercury fillings in American Indian patients than in white patients. In his testimony before Congress, former Virginia state NAACP president Emmitt Carlton described this injustice as "choice for the rich, mercury for the poor." Amalgam costs taxpayers:
Taxpayers foot the bill for the environmental clean-up of amalgam and the medical care associated with mercury-related health problems. Meanwhile, the dentists who dump their mercury into our environment and our bodies are not held financially responsible. Amalgam is diverted to illegal gold mining:
Amalgam is commonly shipped to developing countries labeled for dental use, but then it is diverted to illegal use in artisanal and small-scale gold mining. Not only are the miners exposed to the risks of mercury poisoning, but the dental mercury they use to extract gold is released into the environment. Amalgam is interchangeable with mercury-free filling materials:
Amalgam is interchangeable with numerous other filling materials – including resin composites, compomers, and glass ionomers - that have rendered amalgam completely unnecessary for any clinical situation. In fact, the mercury-free alternatives have made amalgam so non-essential that entire nations, such as the Scandinavian countries, have banned the use of amalgam. Developing nations have benefitted from modern mercury-free techniques, such as atraumatic restorative treatment (ART), that only cost half as much as amalgam and make dental care more accessible. Amalgam drives up the price of mercury-free alternatives:
The continued use of amalgam keeps the price of mercury-free filling materials high by decreasing demand for these alternatives. As use of mercury-free materials increases, their price is expected to decrease even further.

Four years ago, my wife decided to get her amalgam fillings removed while we were on holidays in Costa Rica. The amalgam fillings had turned grey and black, so she had them changed for white fillings.

I didn’t realize it at the time, but her initiative became for me, the beginning of a new awareness regarding the dangers of amalgam fillings, the challenge of removing these fillings and reclaiming my own health.

I have had a mouth full of silver amalgam fillings for over 40 years. I went for a consultation with a dentist, in September, 2011 and I had the shock of my life.

I had decided to get my amalgam fillings removed because they contain about 50% mercury, one of the most dangerous and obnoxious elements on the planet, and my dentist in Cornwall, Ontario refused to remove them. He told me amalgam fillings were perfectly safe, that the mercury was inert in my mouth and there was no good reason to remove them.

I’m not going to cite the research here, but all you need to do is GOOGLE “amalgam fillings, Dr. Andy Cutler, Dr. Mark Breiner, mercury free dentistry, holistic dentistry, and whole body dentistry. You will find a huge amount of information that all leads to the same conclusion: Amalgam (silver) fillings are an extreme health hazard and should be removed using strict dental protocols practiced by a holistic dentist.
So, my consultation with Dr. Chevalier in September, 2011 was an event that challenged almost everything about dental health that I had been taught since the early 1960’s.

During that appointment here is the information that jolted me:

12 amalgam fillings in my mouth had to be removed, 2 each month using the strict protocols(i.e. rubber dam, specialized vacuum, oxygen)

a front tooth which had a root canal and a crown two years prior had to be extracted due to the growth of cysts

an upper molar, and previously treated root canal had to be removed also for the growth of cysts

The whole issue of root canals, and the many risks involved, is a subject for another article. What you should remember is that a tooth which has had a root canal done, is in essence a ‘dead tooth.’ Our bodies are designed to reject dead tissue, so once the blood supply has been cut off to the tooth, there is a strong possibility that anaerobic organisms such as parasites and bacteria will find a home in that space. Then you will have more problems.

I agreed to go ahead with this work, and Dr. Chevalier performed the extractions in December, 2011. Since I needed cosmetic dentistry as a result of the extractions, I incorporated the follow-up treatments while vacationing in Costa Rica. You can read here about dental treatments I had with Dr. Enrique Parra in Liberia, Costa Rica.

Why Do We Use Amalgam Fillings?

What appears to be the case is that the millions of people, who have amalgam fillings around the world, are blind.

They are blind to the fact that there is a strong causal relationship between mercury poisoning and how the body functions. For over 100 years amalgam fillings have been is existence, but during that time organizations like the Canadian and American Dental Associations have refuted any attempts to show that dental amalgams (50% mercury) are a serious health hazard. There is so much money at stake and the possibility of lawsuits for damages would shatter the economy.

Silver amalgams are the cheapest way to fill a tooth, so the profit argument is always the bottom line in business. The American Dental Association, for example, has such a stranglehold on the dentists across America, that if any one of them speaks out against amalgam fillings, that dentist will be censured and may have his license revoked. Meanwhile, people are getting sicker and sicker from the effects of the amalgam but bureaucrats will cry for ‘proof.’ But how can there be proof if no one authorizes research to be done to determine the effects of mercury on the body?

Think about the 60’s when the to***co industries claimed that ‘smoking doesn’t cause cancer.’ The government supported that claim for a long time. But then the dam collapsed, and people realized how dangerous smoking was to overall health. Then the class action lawsuits started. It will be the same for the dental establishment once enough people become aware. The lies, deceits and mistruths will fall like a house of cards.

In Canada, you can walk in and out of a dental office with your mouth loaded with amalgam fillings. They are your fillings.

If the dentist removes just one of those fillings, and shows you the removed filling on a tray, you can say goodbye to it forever. Why? Because the government forbids mercury in any form to be removed from a dental office. That mercury must be stored in a hazardous waste container, and must be removed from the office using strict protocols.

Does that make any sense to you?

Symptoms of Mercury Poisoning

Ken Presner, a self taught pioneer in amalgam research, almost died 20 years ago of MS and Crohn’s Disease, but used his ingenuity to overcome his mercury toxicity without any help from traditional medicine. He, and others, claim that there are over 200 symptoms related to mercury poisoning in the human body.

About four years ago while traveling in Central America, I began to lose weight and while in Panama, I was diagnosed with gastritis and parasites. I returned to Canada and struggled with the parasites, using various modalities in an attempt to eradicate them such as: wormwood, black walnut, cloves, vibrational healing, and many dietary changes.

The parasites are still present in my body, and are noticeable from time to time in my stool. As well, when the parasites are active I suffer from low energy and stomach disorder.

Mercury in amalgam fillings forms an attraction to parasites in the body, and they can spread very quickly to the body’s organs. They make digestion difficult and generally make one lethargic. In my case, I believe they were also responsible for my sinus problems which have persisted for the last 10 years. Even without a cold, my sinuses would become blocked quite frequently, and as I found out only recently, this is one of the symptoms of mercury toxicity.

To cope with the sinus problems, I have found that drinking a glass of water with 3 drops of wild oil of oregano works wonders. This treatment can be taken from 1-3 times per day.

In Dr. Mark Breiner’s book, Whole Body Dentistry, there are numerous examples of the mercury related illnesses in the doctor’s patients. All of the autoimmune diseases such as MS, Crohns, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s begin with brain dysfunction, and mercury can be the culprit.

Remember, western medicine does not take mercury poisoning seriously, and there is no money for the pharmaceutical companies in ridding the population of mercury poisoning. However, there is money attached to the treatment of all of the diseases that I just mentioned. Are you beginning to see the picture?

No research, no proof. No proof, then there can be no problem. That has been the operating model for the past 100 years.

Dentists who have sounded alarm bells regarding mercury toxicity have been quickly silenced by the establishment. Their licenses have been revoked so they are reluctant to speak out. Even many of the ‘mercury free’ dentists won’t talk much about amalgam fillings, but in their clinics they refuse to use them.

My Amalgam Fillings

I have 4 amalgam fillings left to be removed, having had 2 removed each month from September to December, 2011. After each appointment with Dr. Chevalier, I felt unwell for several days and even several weeks after each appointment. Dr. Chevalier explained to me that this reaction is normal. In spite of best practices, 100% of the mercury vapour cannot be eliminated, and the body absorbs some of it. This causes the ‘mercury spiral’ which brings on the symptoms I have been talking about. Fatigue happens frequently after the fillings have been removed. It takes time and patience to get over it.

I will be getting 2 more fillings changed in April, 2012 and the last two in May, 2012. I am looking forward to getting all of the mercury removed from my body. It will be the first time since the 1950’s that I will have no mercury in my body!

Getting the amalgam fillings removed is the first step to restoring my health.

However, as mentioned the mercury has been in my body for the past 50 years, and the removal of the amalgam fillings is only the first step.

The remaining steps will involve “chelation”- which is the removal of the residual mercury from my body. For this step I will require a health professional whom I can trust, since chelation can be a risky procedure.

Each person has a different sensitivity level and the chelation must draw out the toxic metals at an appropriate rate, in order that a ‘backlash’ does not occur. In other words, we want to withdraw the mercury but at a rate that does not make the body mercury toxic- which would be a step backwards!

For this purpose I will be using the services of a naturopath doctor who is familiar with chelation therapy.

In conclusion, you can expect further articles on dental health from this website, since it is my opinion that the amalgam filling issue is not going away, and will only spike as the population ages, and the people who got amalgam fillings in the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s will experience a decline in health as they age.

Right now it appears that the baby boomers, those born between 1945 and 1960, are the demographic most at risk. These are the people who are also suffering from the autoimmune diseases that I previously mentioned.

If you have comments, questions, or experiences you would like to share, please email me with your concerns.

The amalgam filling cover-up will only be exposed when a ‘tipping point’ is reached; that is, when people start talking about their experiences, and refuse to accept poor health as a natural function of ‘aging.’

It doesn’t have to be that way.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Fairness Cream Causes Skin Cancer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Federal health officials are warning consumers not to use skin creams, beauty and antiseptic soaps, or lotions that might contain mercury.

The products are marketed as skin lighteners and anti-aging treatments that remove age spots, freckles, blemishes and wrinkles, says Gary Coody, national health fraud coordinator in the Food and Drug Administration’s Office of Regulatory Affairs. Adolescents also may use these products as acne treatments, adds Coody. Products with this toxic metal have been found in at least seven states.

The products are manufactured abroad and sold illegally in the United States—often in shops in Latino, Asian, African or Middle Eastern neighborhoods and online. Consumers may also have bought them in another country and brought them back to the U.S. for personal use.

“If you have a product that matches these descriptions (and others listed below), stop using it immediately,” says Coody.

“Even though these products are promoted as cosmetics, they also may be unapproved new drugs under the law,” says Linda Katz, M.D., director of FDA’s Office of Cosmetics and Colors. FDA does not allow mercury in drugs or in cosmetics, except under very specific conditions, which these products do not meet.

“Sellers and distributors should not market these illegal products and may be subject to enforcement action, which could include seizure of the products and other legal sanctions,” says attorney Brad Pace, J.D., of the Heath Fraud and Consumer Outreach Branch within FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.

||||||||||||||||||||||||Dangers of Mercury||||||||||||||||||||||||
“Exposure to mercury can have serious health consequences,” says Charles Lee, M.D., a senior medical advisor at FDA. “It can damage the kidneys and the nervous system, and interfere with the development of the brain in unborn children and very young children.”

You don’t have to use the product yourself to be affected, says FDA toxicologist Mike Bolger, Ph.D. “People—particularly children—can get mercury in their bodies from breathing in mercury v***rs if a member of the household uses a skin cream containing mercury.” Infants and small children can ingest mercury if they touch their parents who have used these products, get cream on their hands and then put their hands and fingers into their mouth, which they are prone to do, adds Bolger.

|||||||||||||||||How to Protect Yourself||||||||||||||||||||||
Check the label of any skin lightening, anti-aging or other skin product you use. If you see the words “mercurous chloride,” “calomel,” “mercuric,” “mercurio,” or “mercury,” stop using the product immediately.

If there is no label or no ingredients are listed, do not use the product. Federal law requires that ingredients be listed on the label of any cosmetic or drug.

Don’t use products labeled in languages other than English unless English labeling is also provided.
If you suspect you have been using a product with mercury, stop using it immediately. Thoroughly wash your hands and any other parts of your body that have come in contact with the product. Contact your health care professional or a medical care clinic for advice.

If you have questions, call your health care professional or the Poison Center disclaimer icon at 1-800-222-1222; it is open 24 hours a day.
Before throwing out a product that may contain mercury, seal it in a plastic bag or leak-proof container. Check with your local environmental, health or solid waste agency for disposal instructions. Some communities have special collections or other options for disposing of household hazardous waste.

|||||||||||||Tracking Skin Products Containing Mercury||||||||||||||
Investigations in the past few years by FDA and state health officials have turned up more than 35 products that contain unacceptable levels of mercury. FDA continues to add mercury-containing skin products to its import alerts, which authorize the agency’s field staff to refuse admission of shipments of these products.

But this is only a partial solution, says Coody. “Many of these products are coming into the country through channels we can’t easily track, such as international mail and personal baggage. That’s why it’s so important for consumers and sellers to know about the dangers of possible mercury poisoning associated with the use of these skin products.”

Texas health officials say samples of face cream they tested contained mercury up to 131,000 times the allowable level. And a teenager in southern Texas who used a mercury-containing skin cream was recently hospitalized for mercury poisoning.

In Northern California, a 39-year old woman had more than 100 times the average amount of mercury in her urine and had symptoms of mercury poisoning, according to the California Department of Public Health. For three years, the woman and her husband had been using an unlabeled mercury-containing face cream that was brought into the U.S. from Mexico by a relative. Several other family members who did not use the cream, including a four-year-old child, also had elevated levels of mercury in their bodies.

Virginia, Maryland, and New York have also seen cases of elevated mercury levels in people exposed to skin products containing mercury. In Minnesota, 11 of 27 imported skin products taken from store shelves contained mercury . Photos of some illegal mercury-containing products are shown here:
