On 03 May 2026, 'Manab Zamin' published a Bengali op-ed titled “Health Risks Hidden Behind Packaging”, written by ABM Zubair, Executive Director, PROGGA; and Shabnam Mostofa, Program Officer, PROGGA.
The article underscores that non-communicable diseases (NCDs) account for 71% of total deaths, and the growing consumption of packaged and ultra-processed foods high in sugar, salt, and saturated fat as a key driver of rising NCDs in Bangladesh. It calls for the urgent introduction of mandatory, evidence-based Front-of-Package Labelling (FOPL) to ensure clear warning information, support healthier and more informed food choices, and ultimately help curb the growing prevalence of NCDs.
