Organization for Rural Community Development (ORCD) Organization for Rural Community Development (ORCD), Narail BRIEF PROFILE:

ORCD stands for “Organization for Rural Community Development”.

The organization is initiated by Dr Amirul Islam (Senior Lecturer at the University of
Melbourne, AUSTRALIA) and some highly qualified, enthusiastic and dedicated people of Narail. It is a non-profitable foundation established recently and its official activities launched with an inaugural function held on the 20th December, 2012 at Dariapur school premises in Narail district. The organization will act with some novel ideas to develop rural Bangladesh by carrying out developmental projects in four key fields including - Education, Health, Environment and Income-generation. The organization aims to organize students, teachers & local elites of rural communities to conduct the public oriented projects important for the community development. The ultimate goal of ORCD is to establish healthy, educated and financially sound communities in sustainable environment throughout rural Bangladesh. There are highly educated, established people dedicated to dedicated to rural community development in patronizing the foundation. As a long time goal, ORCD aims at supporting poverty reduction in rural areas throughout the country by undertaking development initiatives in the four targeted fields. The key activities of ORCD involve – preventing dropout of school going children, facilitating brilliant but poor students to continue their studies, health promotion of rural poor providing basic medications following doctors’ suggestions, awareness programs for arsenic poisoning, income-generation that can involve activities in aggro-forestry, fish farming, organic farming, keeping of indigenous chicken, goat-rearing, bee-keeping, micro entrepreneurship etc. To improve environmental conditions, ORCD aims to provide ‘Integrated Education’ through institutions about health and environmental issues by organizing teachers and students. Huge tree-plantation programs will be one of the basic environmental projects by ORCD. Like most of the active NGOs in Bangladesh, ORCD does not involve micro-credit activities (i.e., providing small loan at higher interest). The expenses for the proposed projects and well-defined activities, ORCD depends on donations by various affluent people at its primary stage. ORCD aims to collect funds from income-generation activities and from different national and international aid-agencies.
