Good nutrition is at a cornerstone of good mental health. if you’re eating right, getting enough water, and making sure you’re getting the proper nutrients, that will greatly increase your mood, motivation, and just general quality of life. These two brothers did some bio hacking and found that plant based nutrition- including non-fish Omega 3 oils - may be superior to “animal” based ones. Worth looking into more:

Identical twins Ross and Hugo Turner tested vegan vs. animal-based supplements over six months, revealing surprising results. Hugo, on a plant-based regimen, showed significantly higher levels of key nutrients like Omega-3 and vitamin D3. Their self-experiment adds fresh insight into the power of ve...

In addition to being a therapist, I also underwent health coaching certification, because diet and lifestyle affects our mental health. I feel functional psychiatry (a practice that considers the whole body, including diet, genetics, lifestyle, and environment in exploring mood symptoms and mental health) will gain more traction in the future as we realize medication is only one piece of the mental health puzzle, and we need to also need to make lifestyle and diet changes when exploring the root cause of mental health issues.

Why the recipe? Because eating a protein packed vegetarian meal made without processed ingredients will help your body better, and when we feel better our minds feel better too.

If you're looking for a delicious and nutritious gluten-free option, try this High-Protein Lentil Flatbread infused with lovely herbs! 🌱🥖

Ingredients:
- 1 cup red lentils, rinsed (200g)
- 1 1⁄2 cups water (360ml)
- 1⁄2 tsp salt (2.5g)
- 1 tsp garlic powder (5g)
- 1⁄2 tsp cumin (2.5g)
- 1⁄2 tsp oregano (2.5g)
- 1 tbsp olive oil (15ml)

Directions:
1. Start by soaking the red lentils in 1 1/2 cups of water for about 3 hours. This step helps to soften the lentils, making them easier to blend. Once soaked, drain them and blend until you have a smooth consistency.
2. In a bowl, mix in the salt, garlic powder, cumin, and oregano. This combination will give your flatbreads a wonderful flavor!
3. Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and lightly grease it with olive oil to prevent sticking. Pour the lentil batter in batches to form your flatbreads.
4. Cook each flatbread for about 3-4 minutes on each side until they turn a beautiful golden brown.

Enjoy your tasty and healthy High-Protein Gluten-Free Lentil Flatbread! 🎉🙌

So many of us never know how to engage with a loved one’s depression. We want to help them, and often in that moment give unhelpful suggestions or advice, leaving the person feeling even more resigned and hopeless, when what that person often just craves is companionship and validation of their feelings. And one way to do that is just to be there with them, and you don’t have to *do* anything, you can just “hang out” doing things you’d enjoy.

Perhaps rather than engaging in FOMO - Fear of Missing Out - we instead embrace JOMO - Joy of Missing out?
Being present in the moment 🧘‍♀️, making choices to recharge and be selective with our time ⏰ + what we do and when, rather than potentially run ourselves ragged doing the infinite amount of things possible around you (and end up stressed or sick in the process 💊)
🌟 Sometimes the best thing you can do is just say "No." And emprace JOMO in the process 💖

Four ways to embrace JOMO — the joy of missing out.

Striving for goals gives us a sense of purpose and helps us feel excited. 🏔️
Yet sometimes we hit the challenge of what to do when we achieve our goals. Now what?!? 🤔This comic beautifully reminds us that there are many mountains to climb 🗻, many goals to achieve in our lifetime
🌟Once you have achieved one, finding the next one you want to focus on is the next big adventure! 🤸🏻

What would it mean to reconceptualize secure attachment more holistically? How might embracing the relational richness of our multi-layered lives help transform isolation into belonging?

So much of attachment theory is based out of the white western framework rooted in nuclear family structures, which are NOT the family structures of most of the world, and many USA communities. We humans participate in relationships far beyond just our early caretakers, but so much of attachment theory is rooted in the first early years of interactions with a select few.

Many of us feel profound connections across generations – to ancestors, traditions, and cultural experiences. We also connect deeply with the world around us, people, animals, nature and more. And our relational circles extend to friends, chosen families, and communities near and far. How would it be like to rethink attachment theory and view it from a different lens? Linda Thai, a mental health clinician, explores these questions and more in the video:

While for some people boundaries may come easily, for others it can take lots of practice to get there (and a LOT of trial and error and mistakes along the way!) 🎨
But the end product can be a beautiful addition to your life 💖

I'm all about informed consent: Meaning, know the risks of something and take steps with eyes wide open. So I am not against drinking alcohol, but rather being aware as a consumer of the effects alcohol has on your body long term. And then make an informed decision about your desired next steps.

In the USA, we live in a world heavily influenced by the alcohol lobby, and we are daily reminded of alcohol everywhere we look - TV, movies, restaurants who give you the alcohol menu first. So it's hard sometimes to resist the "pull" to feel like we belong and fit in into the cultures we are part of or WANT to be part of (like wanting to be part of the community seen on TV). So much is unconscious and we don't realize the effect the overwhelming pressure to drink is. (Look at smoking and how much more common it was when it was "cool" to smoke 20 years ago vs now.)

So this post is just to serve as a reminder to be mindful, and be aware of the risk associated with drinking, and you are choosing to drink rather than being unconsciously manipulated to drink because your favorite TV character always has a beer after dinner, or your friends only want to meet up during Happy Hour. Be "in choice" as they say (meaning, you make a active choice, rather than have the choices made for your.)

Whether you're challenging yourself to Dry January, Sober October, or another stretch without drinking, here are some of the healthy things that can happen to your body when you abstain from alcohol.
