It involves the insertion of very thin, sterilized needles into specific acupuncture points on the body in order to rebalance your qi (or life force), guiding the body towards natural healing, and restoring balance and health to the mind, body, and spirit. Acup

uncture is a holistic approach to healing that involves treating the whole person by finding the root cause of a condition in a gentle and compassionate way.

🌗 Yin & Yang: The Foundation of Health in Chinese Medicine 🌞🌚

In Chinese Medicine, true health comes from the dynamic balance of yin and yang—two complementary forces that exist in all of nature and within each of us.

✨ Yin is rest, coolness, moisture, stillness, and inward movement.
🔥 Yang is action, warmth, dryness, light, and outward expression.

They are constantly transforming into one another—like night becoming day, or winter giving way to spring. One cannot exist without the other.

When yin and yang are in harmony, we experience flow, vitality, and resilience. When one becomes excessive or deficient—due to stress, climate, lifestyle, or even our constitutional tendencies—imbalance sets in, and symptoms begin to appear.

🔍 At Soho Acupuncture, we assess your yin-yang balance not just in the body, but in your whole life:
— Health history
— Diet & digestion
— Sleep & energy
— Emotional patterns
— Lifestyle & environment

We use tongue and pulse diagnosis to get a clear picture of your internal state, and create personalized treatments using acupuncture, herbs, and lifestyle guidance to bring your system back into alignment.

💫 Because healing isn’t just about treating symptoms—it’s about restoring balance at the root.

✨ Acupuncture helps guide you back to your truest self—not by adding anything, but by clearing what’s in the way.

In Chinese Medicine theory, health is the harmony between Heaven (spirit), Earth (body), and Human (heart-mind). When Qi flows freely, your body aligns, your emotions settle, and your inner wisdom begins to speak louder than the noise.

Each needle is a gentle reminder to return—to your breath, your essence, your path. You’re not becoming someone new. You’re coming home. ✨

🌸 “As the Yang Qi of Heaven and Earth rises in spring, all things grow and flourish.” — Huangdi Neijing

Spring is meant to be a time of renewal, movement, and awakening—but for many, it arrives with itchy eyes, relentless sneezing, and brain fog from over-the-counter antihistamines.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this isn't just about "allergens." Spring is governed by the Wood element and the Liver, which controls the smooth flow of Qi. When Liver Qi gets stuck—often due to stress, diet, or underlying weakness—it stirs up internal Wind, leading to those classic allergy symptoms.

🌬️ Puffy eyes?
🤧 Nasal congestion?
😣 Mood swings + irritability?
These are signs your body’s having trouble adapting to the seasonal shift.

✨ Acupuncture works by calming internal Wind, strengthening your Wei Qi (defensive energy), and restoring harmony to the Lung, Spleen, and Liver systems. Patients often feel relief in their sinuses relatively quickly after starting treatment—and that’s just the beginning. We always work on addressing the root cause in addition to the acute symptoms for lasting relief.

In Chinese Medicine, spring is the season of renewal, growth, and transformation. 🌱✨ Just as plants reach toward the light, our bodies and spirits are ready to emerge from winter’s stillness.

Spring is associated with the Liver, the organ responsible for the smooth flow of Qi (energy) and emotions. It’s the perfect time to support your body with acupuncture, herbs, and gentle movement to release stagnation and step into the season feeling clear, light, and energized.

🌿 Spring Tips for Transitioning into the Season:

Nourish your Liver—Spring is the time to support the Liver, which governs both physical energy and emotional balance. Choose foods that support the Liver such as leafy greens, dandelion greens, beets, and sprouts.

Detox gently—Liver Qi supports natural detoxification, so consider drinking warm water with lemon in the morning to stimulate digestion and support the body’s natural cleansing process.

Stretch and move daily—Incorporate gentle movement like yoga, walking, or Qi Gong to release tension and promote the smooth flow of Qi. This helps prevent stagnation, which can lead to irritability or digestive issues.

Clear emotional blockages—Spring is the time to release stagnant emotions. Practice mindfulness, meditation, or journaling to release frustrations or stress that may have built up over the winter months.

Acupuncture and herbs—Acupuncture can help clear any Liver Qi stagnation, ease tension, and boost energy. Chinese herbs can also support this process by nourishing your Liver and aiding in detoxification.

Spring is a time of growth and renewal, and as the season transitions, let your body and mind follow suit. Take the time to nourish, move, and release. If you’re feeling stuck or sluggish, acupuncture is the perfect way to help you move through the season with clarity, ease, and vitality.

🌿 Why I love Using Auricular Acupuncture on All My Patients 🌿

One of my (Jens) favorite things about acupuncture is how quickly it can shift the body into a state of deep relaxation. That’s why I almost always start my treatments with auricular (ear) acupuncture—a powerful way to calm the nervous system before I even place needles elsewhere.

The ear is like a mini-map of the entire body, with different points corresponding to the head, organs, limbs, and more. By stimulating these points, we can send signals throughout the system, encouraging balance and ease. What I love most? The results are almost instant—patients often feel a wave of calm within minutes.

From a Chinese medicine perspective, the ear is a hub of energy. All 12 primary meridians connect to or around the ear, making it a vital treatment site. It’s also a mirror of the body’s internal state—issues like pain, stress, or imbalance can show up as tenderness, discoloration, or even tiny dark spots on the ear.

🌱 Auricular acupuncture helps with:
✨ Stress & anxiety relief (instantly calming the mind)
✨ Chronic pain & migraines
✨ Insomnia & sleep disorders
✨ PTSD & emotional regulation
✨ Addiction recovery & smoking cessation
✨ Lowering blood pressure & supporting weight loss

I love seeing how a few tiny needles in the ear can create such a profound shift—turning off the stress response and allowing the body to truly let go. Have you experienced auricular acupuncture yet? 💛

💫 Looking back, I never could have predicted that a simple moment—one of those strange, synchronistic twists—would completely change the course of my life. In my early 20s, I was searching for something more—a deeper sense of purpose, a way to heal, a path forward.

One day, while walking down a windy street in Chicago, a flyer for an Introduction to Chinese Medicine workshop literally blew into my leg. I took it as a sign and decided to go. During the workshop, we practiced qi gong, and in that very first class, I felt something profound—Qi moving through my hands for the first time. It was a moment of clarity, a deep knowing that I had found what I didn’t even realize I was looking for.

That experience led me to pursue a Master’s degree in Chinese Medicine, followed by years of advanced study in five-element acupuncture, pulse diagnosis, and Classical Chinese Herbal Medicine. Now, with over 12 years of clinical experience, I’m the founder of Soho Acupuncture by Jen Becker, where I help my patients find balance in body, mind, and spirit.

As a mother, I have a special interest in women’s health and deeply understand the physical and emotional challenges that come with it. I work with a wide range of conditions, from stress and anxiety to sleep and digestive issues, using acupuncture, herbal medicine, and Chinese nutritional therapy to create a truly integrative approach to healing.

I’m so grateful I trusted my instincts and followed this path. Chinese medicine changed my life, and now I get to help others on their own journey to health and well-being. The deeper I study, the more I realize how much there is still to learn. I love that this medicine is an endless discovery, always revealing new layers of understanding. Being a practitioner means being a lifelong student, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.💫

✨ What if deep, restorative sleep felt as natural as a flower opening only under the quiet glow of the moon? 🌸🌙

In acupuncture, the Ren Channel—often called the "Sea of Yin"—flows along the midline of the body. This meridian governs Yin energy, reproduction, and the deepest reserves of nourishment in the body. It connects to the Heart, Lungs, and Kidneys—organs essential for emotional balance, breath, and deep restorative sleep.

When Yin is depleted, the mind stirs, the spirit (Shen) becomes restless, and sleep drifts further away. By treating the Ren/Conception Vessel, acupuncture helps calm the heart/spirit, regulate breath, and replenish Yin, allowing the body to fully surrender to rest. 🌿💤

At our practice we regularly treat patients with insomnia, restless sleep, frequent waking, and dream-disturbed sleep using acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. By restoring Yin, soothing the nervous system, and rebalancing the body's natural rhythms, we help guide you into deep, effortless rest.

Like the rare moonflower, which only unfurls in the stillness of night, your body, too, needs the quiet nourishment of Yin to bloom in its own time.

🌊The Bladder channel is the longest meridian in the body, flowing from the inner corner of the eye, over the head, down the back (where it forms two parallel lines), along the legs, and ending at the pinky toe. This incredible pathway is deeply connected to the Water element in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), representing flow, adaptability, and our reserves of strength and wisdom.

✨ What Does the Bladder Channel Represent?
As part of the Water element, the Bladder channel works hand in hand with the Kidneys to regulate our deepest energy reserves (Yuan Qi) and manage our ability to adapt to life’s challenges. It governs storage, elimination, and flow—on a physical, emotional, and energetic level.

✨ Back Shu Points: Treating Every Organ System
The Bladder meridian also houses the Back Shu points, located along the inner line of the back. These points directly connect to each organ system in the body, making the Bladder channel one of the most comprehensive tools for holistic healing. By working with the Shu points, we can support every organ—balancing the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, and more.

✨ What Do We Treat Using the Bladder Meridian?

Stress, Anxiety & Tension: Holding tension in your back and shoulders? The inner Bladder line is often a key focus for releasing built-up stress.

Back Pain: This meridian runs the length of the spine, making it a go-to for addressing acute and chronic back pain.

Urinary Issues: It's essential for regulating the flow and elimination of fluids.

Sleep Problems: Specific points on the Bladder channel are deeply calming and can help with insomnia, especially from overthinking or exhaustion.

Emotional Release: The Bladder channel is where we store unresolved emotions. Working with this meridian can help let go of fear, grief, and other deeply rooted feelings.

✨ A Channel of Depth & Flow
The Bladder meridian connects to the Water element’s wisdom, helping us find our inner strength, adaptability, and calm in the face of challenges.
