Dr. Farida Khatun is the founder of Farida Clinic. She graduated from Dhaka Medical College in 1962. Since, she had served Dhaka Medical College Hospital as Assistant Registrar, Registrar, and Resident Surgeon from 1963-1966. She had also worked at Mitford Hospital from 1966-1970. She nurtured the vision for a private clinic dedicated to women’s health and founded Farida Clinic in 1967. It remains the first government-recognized private clinic in Dhaka. She has been its driving force overseeing the management as well as the clinical side. Though the clinic did not have an official name, it came to be known because of her. So, we decided to officially call it Farida Clinic.

Prof T. A. Chowdhury is currently an Honorary Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Chief Consultant at BIRDEM Hospital, Dhaka. He has also been a Professor of Obs/Gyn and the Director of the Postgraduate Medical Institute (PG Hospital) in Dhaka presently known as BSMMU. He has served as the President of the Obstetrical & Gynecological Society of Bangladesh, South Asian Federation of Obs/Gyn (SAFOG) and Bangladesh Perinatal Society. He has been a founder-consultant of Farida Clinic since its establishment in 1967. He has also founded and consulted patients at the Infertility Management Center since 1992. In 2017, he was awarded Bangladesh’s highest civil award, Swadhinata Padak by the Government of Bangladesh.

Our Story

In 1967, Prof. T A. Chowdhury and Dr. Farida Khatun founded Farida Clinic. It was the first registered private clinic in Dhaka dedicated to women’s health offering obstetric and gynecological care. Over the years, more than thirty-five thousand babies have been born here as well as numerous major and minor surgical procedures have taken place. Since the 1980s, Farida Clinic has been one of the pioneering institutes to offer laparoscopic (keyhole) surgeries for gynecological conditions and infertility. More than 25,000 laparoscopic surgeries have been performed till date. Since 1992, Farida Clinic has started a separate wing called Infertility Management Center that deals with both basic and advanced treatments and procedures for the management of infertility. From 2009, Infertility Management Center has started its own assisted reproductive technology facility offering state of the art procedures like, intra-uterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilization (IVF), and intra cytoplasmic s***m injection (ICSI). At present, the clinic is equipped with twenty beds for in-patient management and facilities for patients needing minor surgical or day-case procedures. Farida Clinic along with the IMC is a unique institution which has been dedicated to improving women’s health in the last fifty years with special emphasis on advanced and affordable management of fertility-related complications.
