A woman who was born with a rare condition known as double uterus gave birth to two twin girls whom she carried in each of her uteruses during her pregnancy.

Kelsey Hatcher of Dora, Alabama, delivered one girl on Tuesday, and another on Wednesday following 20 hours of labor, according to the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

"Our miracle babies were born! They decided they were rare enough statistically that they should just go ahead and have their own birthdays too," Hatcher wrote on Instagram.

A man, who was dying from a heart condition and was given only 12 hours to live, was up and talking after doctors removed his heart and replaced it with a device that allowed blood to circulate in his body without a pulse.

In 2011, a 55-year-old man named Craig Lewis was suffering from amyloidosis, a rare autoimmune disease that causes a build-up of abnormal proteins and results in rapid heart, kidney and liver failure.

Dr Billy Cohn and Dr Bud Frazier, from the Texas Heart Institute, proposed the installation of a ‘continuous flow’ device that would help Lewis' blood circulation without a pulse.

Scientists have created an exoskeleton “boot” that enables humans to walk 9% quicker with 17% less effort. The developers created an untethered exoskeleton boot that can be customised to the demands of the wearer using machine learning technologies. According to US researchers from Stanford University, this robotic footwear has a motor that cooperates with calf muscles to give the user an additional push with each stride. The research team claimed that its work might allow individuals with mobility issues to “move throughout the world as they like”.

The Omicron COVID-19 variant has been linked to the deterioration of cognitive ability in some patients. Primary care hospitals in Thailand are now setting up special clinics for long-COVID symptoms, offering outpatient services for those affected.

According to a recent study published in the medical NEJM Journal Watch, even mild COVID can lead to substantial brain changes that impact cognitive ability.

In the study, 401 people in the United Kingdom who recovered from COVID-19 had undergone two MRI scans and cognitive testing.

Compared to a control group of 384 people who had never contracted the virus, those who recovered, even with mild symptoms, can exhibit changes in their brain indicating a cognitive decline.

This study was shared on Facebook by Dr Thira Woratanarat from the Faculty of Medicine at Chulalongkorn University, who said further studies would be needed to determine the duration of these changes and their connection with long-COVID symptoms.

The Department of Medical Services (DMS) has introduced a new policy to set up long-COVID clinics at healthcare facilities, providing health services for those experiencing post-recovery symptoms.

This special clinic will be available at healthcare facilities, including primary care centers, to ensure easy access among patients. The clinics may also provide telemedicine options in addition to conventional outpatient services.
