পৃথিবীতে বর্তমানে ১৯৫ টি দেশ আছে, প্রায় ৬৫০০ টি ভাষাভাষী মানুষ আছে, আরো আছে অগণিত জাতি! মজার ব্যাপার হলো পৃথিবীর প্রায় প্রত্যেক দেশের, প্রত্যেক ভাষার, প্রত্যেক জাতির মানুষের মধ্যে নববর্ষ উদযাপনের রীতি আছে। একই দেশে আবার অঞ্চলভেদে নববর্ষ উদযাপনের রীতি পদ্ধতির মধ্যে বৈচিত্র্য দেখা যায়। তাই ' বিভিন্ন দেশে কিভাবে নববর্ষ উদযাপিত হয়' এই প্রশ্নের উত্তর বিশ্ব কোষের মত কয়েক কলামেও সংকুলান হবে না! তবে এত বৈচিত্র্যর মাঝেও কিছু সাধারণ মিল খুঁজে পাওয়া যায়। যেমন বিশ্বের অধিকাংশ মানুষই এই দিনে তাদের দুঃখ - হতাশা - গ্লানিতে ভরা, ভাঙাচোরা, পুরোনো বছরটাকে ফেলে দিয়ে নতুন, সুন্দর, সমৃদ্ধির আশায় ভরা এক নতুন জীবনে প্রবেশ করে; দিনব্যাপী নাচ, গান, খেলাধুলা আর নানা রকম লৌকিক আচার অনুষ্ঠানের মাধ্যমে দিনটিকে স্বতন্ত্র করে তোলে। অর্থাৎ নতুনত্ব আর আনন্দানুভূতি হল নববর্ষের ভিত্তি আর সেই ভিত্তির উপরেই পৃথিবীর বিভিন্ন দেশের মানুষেরা বৈচিত্র্যময় উদযাপন রীতির মিনার গড়ে তুলেছে। দেশ, ভাষা, অঞ্চল, জাতি, গোষ্ঠীভেদে নববর্ষ পালনে সাধারণ কিছু পার্থক্য থাকা খুবই স্বাভাবিক।
সবাইকে শুভ নববর্ষের আন্তরিক শুভেচ্ছা।
