Today, a free medical camp organized by Buro Hospital was held in Jhagarman village of Kalihati upazila. A total of 105 patients were treated in the camp. Out of these, about 65 patients were suffering from scabies, especially among children. Adults are also affected.
What is Scabies?
Scabies is a type of skin disease caused by a small mite called Sarcoptes scabiei. It mainly enters the skin and causes itching and rashes.
Symptoms:
Severe itching, especially at night
Small rashes or spots on the hands, fingernails, wrists, elbows and stomach
In children, it spreads to the head, face and various parts of the body
Treatment and what to do:
Creams/lotions should be used as per the doctor's advice
The patient's clothes, bedding and used items should be washed thoroughly in hot water
All family members should be treated together
If the disease is repeated, medicine should be used as per the doctor's advice
Warning: If scabies is neglected, the whole family can be affected. Therefore, it is important to seek treatment quickly.
