This year the Planetary Health Alliance (PHA) is organising its Planetary Health Annual Meeting (PHAM) in Rotterdam, themed “Planetary Health for All and In All: Boosting Urgency and Agency for Systems Change.” from 7 until 10 October in Rotterdam.

The B*H working group on Planetary Health is preparing a side-event on the transformative power from the Planetary Health social movement on Oct 6, a pre-conference day session. Planetary health is a social movement, but this aspect is often not discussed in the current debate. This side event is an important opportunity to focus on the vibrant Planetary Health community, and its power for social change. It will cover three topics: power relationships crossing Planetary Health and climate crisis; science, radicalism and civil disobedience, and the future of climate action.

Attendance to the pre-conference day on Oct 6 is included in the general entrance fee. You can also contact Be-cause health if you only want to attend the side-event. With amongst others Beverly Longid, the Global Coordinator of the International Int'l Indigenous Peoples Movement for Self Determination & Liberation from the Philippines), Handicap International - Humanity & Inclusion , Belgium, and supported by the Instituut voor Tropische Geneeskunde | Institute of Tropical Medicine.

The next Alumni webinar of the Instituut voor Tropische Geneeskunde | Institute of Tropical Medicine on World Malaria Day on 29th April is with PhD-student Luis Esteban Cabrera Sosa who will focus his presentation on the challenges for malaria elimination in Peru. Regardless of launching the national malaria elimination plan in 2022, decreasing the number of cases in Peru during the last years has been difficult. In this scenario, malaria molecular surveillance (MMS) can become a useful tool to face these challenges.
In this webinar, Luis will share the current state of malaria epidemiology in the Peruvian Amazon, challenges for malaria elimination and how MMS can contribute to it.
The Q&A-session will be moderated by Anna Rosanas-Urgell, Luis’ PhD co-supervisor and Head of the Malariology Unit at the ITM Biomedical Sciences department.
