American Club of Antwerp

We are a relatively small group that meets monthly for a casual seated dinner and easy-going conversation – normally the month’s third or fourth Friday evening, except in August and December. We are small enough that everyone can join in lively impromptu conversation and get to know one another. Traditional special club activities that specifically include spouses or partners are a Memorial Day luncheon near one of the three U.S. military cemeteries in Belgium and an end-of-summer barbecue. We often join with other expat clubs to celebrate major American holidays at Thanksgiving, Christmas and the Fourth of July. We also organize occasional special outings, to which we invite members of other expat clubs, such as a tour of the Flanders Field battleground, a visit to a medieval hospital convent, or a dinner cruise of Antwerp’s harbor. Although we have dined and conversed together for many years and we are fond of our traditions and one another, we are very welcoming to newcomers, American or otherwise, men and women, and are eager to share our friendships and activities. The only condition for potential new members is having an interest in the U.S. and expat life in Belgium, and an English fluency sufficient to permit comfortable participation in our dinner conversations and other activities.
