THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT ⭐️
OPENING FRIDAY 23.2. /17-19
At Gallery KANT in Copenhagen

We look forward to welcoming you to
“THAT`S ENTERTAINMENT”, an exhibition titled after a 1980 song by British punk-mod revivalist group The Jam from their fifth album, Sound Affects.

The song uses an almost entirely acoustic arrangement with only very light percussion. Like much of Sound Affects, the song has strong undercurrents of pop-psychedelia. The only electric guitar riff in the song is played backwards over one of the verses, a hallmark of psychedelia.

A police car and a screaming siren
Pneumatic drill and ripped-up concrete
A baby wailing, stray dog howling
The screech of brakes and lamp light blinking

So what’s this exhibition’s relationship to the song? Directly, none! Indirectly, a distillation of events which are transformed in different media for their beauty, emotional power, intellectual reflection or enjoyment. Etymologically the word entertainment is rooted in the Old French word “entretenir” meaning hold together or support. Entertainment provides opportunities for us to socialize and communicate. If fine art is related to a product that entertains people then it can be considered entertainment art. Today, this is supported by a mega-culture industry.

THAT´S ENTERTAINMENT is a dialogue between the exhibited artists, their works and ourselves.

Tiny dead leaf picked up from the banks of the Danube river, photographed with a microscope. From the series Pillow Book - Mountains, Rivers and Forests.

Revisiting the past, they discovered a different truth, unmasking the memory’s elaborate facade. The heartache they felt was real, yet the details had been artfully rearranged by time, proving how memories, like watercolors, blend fact and fiction.
